Speedstep allows the processor to throttle down during non peak workloads. Helps keep your PC cooler by running at a slower speed, but it has the stability to instantly throttle up to full speed when necessary. I use it on my Intel Processor without ever doubting it's decision making as to when to throttle up. Lower temperature help all electronics overall last longer with less problems.
