Any of you live in western North Carolina? QUESTIONS
« on: September 18, 2009, 12:17:33 PM »
I'm planning to move that way in the not too distant future: Asheville or higher elevations, Boone, Blowing Rock, etc.

I have a bunch of questions about:

HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTIONS

public and private services...water, wells, snow plowing, etc.

transportation and generally driving around in winter snows

energy costs

cost of living vs. lowlanders

etc., etc., etc.

I have too many specific questions to waste space on this thread.

If interested in answering any of my many questions, please reply with your name in this thread; then I'll PM you with my list of queries.

Thanks.

regards, TEShaw

We no longer marry our sisters.  :D
But if you like freaks, there is no shortage in Asheville.

TEShaw, also if you can visit the towns before you decied... that would be a great idea, make sure you check the stores and such...... while you're in the store make sure the dental floss dosent come in rope coils , id tend to stay clear of that town

Where do you live now? The Carolinas are just like any other southern state...woods...lots of insects...a few snakes...high humidity...hurricane once in a while...trailer parks...some toothless people on porches...couple of dogs chained to the porches...Walmart within driving distance.

TeShaw,
I was raised in the town of Lenoir. It's in the foothills between Hickory and Blowing Rock. It was once the furniture capitol of the south, Broyhills main office is still there. It has a population of about 18 k or so and still has a small town feel. It's about 20 minutes from Blowing Rock and about 30 from Hickory. So you can run up the mountain and enjoy that or ride to Hickory for the larger stores.
With all due respect to our northern neighbors..It seems like the northerners are taking over Ashville and the Blowing Rock- Boone area. They have a different attitude than the native folks. Instead of trying to adapt to the local way of life they try to change it to the way of life they tried to get away from. Like I said no slam here just facts.
Lenoir hasn't made that change too much yet but and it's a good place to live. My Mom has cable internet and it has a speed as high as 20 meg now I think.
Don't know if you plan to work but there are very little jobs there. Once the industry moved to China the furniture factories closed the doors. I ended up in the eastern part of the state just to find work.
Anyway pm me if you want more information or Google Lenoir up. BTW Google just built a huge facility there.
