there should be no "bye's" IMO
The only way to make sure of that is to limit the tourney to 8, 16, 32 or 64 players depending on interest level.
I like Strips second idea but think we'll leave it as is for now. Because everything is by random selection it's still as fair as it can be. The guys who have to duel in the first round will have to be on their game and it will be even more of an accomplishment if they go all the way.
I don't really want to introduce double eliminations or best of five as it reduces the "any given Sunday" phenomenon. The way it is, even if you lose it could simply be you had an off day and I think the importance of each duel in the current format will keep people coming back even if they don't get past the first round (I
know I could have won that one but...). Furthermore, if two great pilots get matched in the first round and one is eliminated it leaves room for a lesser pilot to advance. I think this also helps keep the tourney interesting for all skill levels. Just my thoughts.
