Ok... just as a foil for all them 109's and hawg variants how about some more Mustangs?

Like maybe the Mustang 1A; Allison powered with 4 fearsome 20mm. Lemme play with them damn Hawgs.   And yes; they made more than 200 of em.

Or the ferocious P51H... 700 lbs lighter. With a Merlin V-1650-11 engine and over 2000 HP. oooooh yah. Come ta papa.

We gonna see any of these???

Actually Hang, only 57 of the 150 Mustang IA's that were ordered were delivered.  The rest were sent to the USAAF (with fifties replacing the Hispanos) and designated "P-51" (no letter).

Retrofit anyone?  This isn't historical arena Hang's talking about.  The planes were retrofitted with .50's after we decided not to fill the order.  (Pretty sure that's what happened, but I been wrong afore.)

I don't know if it was a retrofit or not Tern.  The 20mm installation involved big fairings over the gun barrels.

Would be interesting to find the definitive answer though.  Huh, Funked?

No I can't say I care too much what the answer is.  If I find it I will report it though.  Those planes also had cameras added in the fuselage.  I'm guessing the cameras and the guns were done at the same time, don't know whether it was done before they left the plant or not.

I always thought that would have been a great plane for the Warbirds RPS, but without an RPS it's nothing special.

I consider it something of a classic.. very diffrent thinking was applied to the development of the AC and the Cannon version very much impressed the British... they were just gettin used to Cannons too.

Perfect for low altitude operations; fast as hell and nimble; it was just what they wanted... more than what they wanted in fact; as the brits originally asked NAA for just P40's built under liscense. NAA responded with "We can do better than P40's..." this was in 1940! Most of the concept work on the planes systems was already done in the late thirties....

That original Mustang was the first American fighter to be developed with the feedback from the war in Europe. And it WAS a very good low alt performer from all accounts. It would be a great plane in AH as well where most fights are below 10k.

It would ahve probably made it into OUR inventorys faster... but because it was developed OUTSIDE of normal US Contract  procedures; it was often 'poooh-pooohed' by the damn War Dept as "Not Invented Here"

Most of these models deserve to be in AH.. every bit as much as the 109 variants and the F4U1c. Pyro.. how 'bout it??

DEAL!  (Jerks a thumb at Fishy... "He really doesn't know the 51-A very well does he?)

Of course, to get the 152, you will have to wait 2 years before you can engage my 51-A, which by that time will become the 51-D.  At which point the argument becomes a bit moot.
