It's not my forte, so I can't vouch for the validity of the opinions there, but I've been reading on the SoftTH and the WideScreenGaming forums that there are some issues with the 5800 cards that ATI hasn't been completely forthcoming about. I was really excited about this card too, and I may still get it just for its brute power and Dx11 support. However here's the disappointing stuff I've read:
1. It won't natively support mixed size/mixed resolution gaming with its multiple monitor support. (if you have mixed monitors, you might still need something like SoftTH).
2. Multiple screen support with Eyefinity will require DisplayPort capable monitors only, or purchasing DP/DVI adapters that are expensive. (So don't throw out your TH2Gos)
3. Buying 5800sX2 will *require* (as in, not be able to disable) the use of Crossfire. (This wouldn't be an issue if you're buying only one, but dual cards will require Xfire.)
So if anyone's looking at these cards for multiscreen gaming, I'd just recommend reading some of the relevant forums to see what others have experienced. The 5870 is going for about $400 at Amazon, btw.
Again, I don't know for sure that any of the above is true regarding multi-monitor support and Xfire. Maybe some of you more in the know about such things can confirm it? Just reporting on what I've read.
