Heavy/Mellow 4 SERaider and Madda
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:28:30 AM »
Was talking to a few of you guys last night regarding Sabbath..
Here's some of the stuff I was talking about....
This is that band (Sleep) I was talking about..  Whole bunch of Sabbath influence here..

From Beyond

The Druid

And to put it all into perspective, here's Sleep doing a cover of SnowBlind..

Here's another favorite of mine in this genre...Acid King.....They have a chick singer but sounds like a stoned out pissed off version of Joan Jett..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buTQK-UI-m8&feature=fvw<---Drive fast, Take chances...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6eNI3r2gEI&feature=related<---2 Wheeled Nation

Here's my all time favorite....Kyuss....Their Guitarist (Josh Homme) went on to start Queens of the Stone Age(you may have heard of them)..

A lot of this stuff hails from the desert regions of California..  That desert influence is definitely evident..
There are so many names for this genre and I think one of you guys came up with a new one:Heavy Mellow....lol
The stuff is a lot more relaxed than other forms of heavier music..  It's never up in your face screaming and begging to be turned down..  I like to play it loud and with a lot of bass as that's how it's meant to be played..  I get a distinct early 70's vibe when I listen to this stuff..  I like call it Bottom Heavy Psychedelic Rock..  Enjoy..

If you're interested in more, PM me....  I have all this stuff on my FTP site..

Ok, just got done listening to all of it and I liked every last bit.  I'd heard of acid king before, but not listened to any of their stuff.  I'll send a pm about getting dome downloads of this stuff from you man.  It'll go great at work on my Zune.

Heavy mellow has always been how I sort of thought of Sabbath in my head, though I've never said it out loud I don't think.  Never had to describe the genre before.  I like it though.  Thanks for the links man!
