AH texture files and image complexity
« on: January 26, 2001, 03:44:00 PM »
quick question about artwork for AH AC and GVs.

Am i correct in understanding that more polygons there are the more memory will be used thus slowing fps.? (i'm assuming this is basic knowledge...and is correct)

Now, about the textures. Will a more complex texture, let's say for a wing of the b17, (and at the same size and resolution, etc) mean that more video memory will be needed? In other words, will the memory or cpu process be the same for an image that is a solid grey color VS. an image that is full of gradients, rivets, oil streaks, etc etc??

Images with more colors are always bigger file sizes.  I'm not sure about how this is reflected in the game other than causing a bigger download.

right, if you compared 2 files for textures lets say:

256x256 pixels and a solid grey

VS

256x256 pixels with multiple colors and textures.

the multi colored one will have a larger file size, but will that larger file size cuase more memory usage in AH? or a slower FPS?

imagine a camoflagued dress versus a solid sivler dress. or a rivetless plane VS a plane with lines, rivets, burns etc.
