Question regarding audio

Alright, I'm not sure where this goes so I will post it here. I'm in the process of making a film and I'm curious to know if there are any programs currently available to grab audio from the live feed? I'm trying to grab or download some WW2 radio podcasts but "Free Music Zilla" doesn't work on my system.

Would there be any other way to grab or download the podcasts? Thanks in advance!

You could try soundcapture or audacity. Both allow you to record what you hear...audacity is a great audio editor...both are freeware.

My sound card (SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS) supports recording from the "speakers." Check and see if you can:

Go to your Volume Control under Accessories>Entertainment. Pull down whatever menu your have in the top left. Mine is labeled Options, I've seen some called Advanced. Choose Properties. Change from Playback to Recording, check everything, and hit OK. If any of them are called "Wave" or "What U Hear," check the box under them and crank the volume up. You can now use any sound recording software to record what's coming through your speakers.

It also has the ability to setup a timed recording so you can turn on a live streaming audio and go off to work. I have mine setup to record quite a few things unattended but I dont think it can access content automatically (if it can I havent figured it out).

Neither are working for me unfortunately. It's been a pain in the arse trying to find a program that can grab streaming audio. There are a couple audio tracks that I really need but nothing is working for me.


Any other alternatives?

Talon, you might have to make some adjustments to your sound card setup. Do you have a link to those audio files? I use Audacity and I've never had any problems capturing sound from any digital source.

To get it working with the app I recommended first try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the system tray and select 'recording devices.' When the sound applet pops up right click in unused white area and select 'Show Disabled Devices' and  'Show Disconnected Devices.' Streaming audio can be recorded from 'Stereo Mix' or 'Wave' in Vista and also 'What You Hear' in XP. You will need to set whichever option you wish to record from as default by right clicking and selecting 'Set as Default Device.' Now when you start Hi-Q Recorder you will click on the Options button at the top and in the 'Select Input Source' window set your choice for recording source. If it is not already set you will have to shutdown Hi-Q after you make the change and restart it.

I set the recording length manually with a custom file size as 21 Megs (Auto-Split) which seems to work out good for an hour recording.
