It would not be possible to put a warranty on it, because he Cracked the seals on the case.  So pretty much you are up poo creek.  What you could do if you are experienced with a soldering iron, is re solder the chips with LEAD solder none of that eco friendly crap. that would fix your problem.

It's not just the chips, it's everything that was soldered on the board.

The chips is where the problem is though, because when the board heats up it causes the ecosolder to melt which then lets the chip float around a bit, causing the connections to fail.

I had the three rings on my X-Box about a year ago.  I went to Microsoft's website, filled out a ticket, and they mailed me a box with postage pre-paid.  Didn't cost me a dime to send the system back to them in the box, and they shipped it back to me (also free of charge) within a couple of weeks.  As much as I dislike Microsoft, I had absolutely no complaints about this one; the customer support was fantastic, free, and prompt.

@Selino631: No most times they fix your console and ship it back to you, because something in the system program prevents you from keeping and reusing the DLC on your drive.

@Dead Man Flying:  There is a reason that they fix the RRoD for free.  Microsoft knows they screwed up by using the Ecosolder and that over repeated heating/cooling cycles it gets brittle and fails.  They just don't want to lose business.

I have a buddy that they fixed his xbox after a RRoD.  He got it back and it had some major problems.  It started acting as if it had some major heat damage, like it started to have hitches in the games, unexplained lock ups.  Stuff along those lines.

Yes, but, can you play Katamari Damacy on your PS3? Or Ace Combat 5 or Ace Combat Zero? No, you cannot.

I, like usual, said screw buying online. I asked my father who is an Engineer, and he decided he'd do hes own version with different nuts and bolts. IT WORKED, as of now, the xbox has been working like a charm. I removed the Heat Sink and found the problem, i also removed the X-clamps, which my father explained that the problem was the X-clamps shrinking and expanding from the heat. They loosened the heat sink began to get gaps in between and the crappy solder melted all over the chips. The solder was ineffective now and so were the Heat sinks. The bolts tightened the heat sinks again and i put my own silicon thermal paste (MUCH BETTER THAN THE STUPID SOLDERING). It should now work like brand new. Especially with the soon to come cooling system.  :D

The hell's Katamari Damacy? And you can't play Ace Combat 5 or Zero on your xBox 360...some actually can play them on their PS3. What's your point?

I have both. Prefer the PS3's graphics and xBox's online play. That's what it generally boils down to.

If you're going to turn my thread into a "The best Gaming Console" argument, then please, leave. This is for people who may of had the 3 rings or anything about the Xbox360.

And that has been discussed to its limits, as far as I see. Nothing stopping you from continuing, though.

All I was doing was correcting a bit of misguidance.

Thank you, i agree the Ps3 is better built, better graphics, but the popularity for the 360 is so intense it blows the PS3 out of the box. Further Discussion won't go any farther.
