@Dead Man Flying: There is a reason that they fix the RRoD for free. Microsoft knows they screwed up by using the Ecosolder and that over repeated heating/cooling cycles it gets brittle and fails. They just don't want to lose business.
I know why the error is common. And the customer service in response to the problem I encountered was excellent.
