USB power output : Question

I cant seem to find the answer for this on google or wiki.

I have a device that can be powered up via USB. I bought it in the USA.

However, I am now in NZ and the power here is 240v... if I plug this device into a USB from a computer that is using a 240V power ... will it work ok or will it blow up? :P

It will work. The PSU takes that 240V and makes it work the MB and everything underneath that (12V and 5V and so on).

"I think" usb is the same voltage no matter what mains power is, but get someone to confirm that

USB 2.0 spec is 5V @ 500ma. max
The 5V spec appears to be 4.75 - 5.25V.
This is independent of the Mains, as the power comes from the motherboard

Not bad thinking...  then they are less likely to run away when it comes to happy luvin time.  Now... if they could only figure out a sheep poo catcher for the treadmill they would have all bases covered.

Provided your computer works (if thats what your using to charge it) then it should work as normal.

hmm...

here's what I'm trying to do:

I have one of these (not the one in the pic but another model, different company) which im giving as a gift to someone here in NZ:

and for power it has a USB port and a regular power adapter.

Since it was bought in the US the power adapter is 120V. The power here is 230V

Finding a power adapter/transformer/whatever is becoming rather hard for me here as the only ones I can find are far more expensive than the gift itself. doh!

Since it has a USB....

if I buy a powered USB hub and plug it into that will it work? Im not familiar with usb stuff when it comes to power handling. any suggestions welcome. :P

I think USB power is standardized since a lot of countries have different voltages and wattages. Plus, a lot of tech is made in Japan depending on what your buying. So my guess would be yes, it would work.
