Fw 190F-8/G-8
« on: April 14, 2000, 09:01:00 AM »
Supposedly the late production Fw 190F-8 and G-8 were virtually the same plane, armed with two 13mm upper and the two 20mm wingroot guns and with various wing rack options, such as:

250-500kg centreline, 250kg each wing.
250-500kg or 4x50kg centreline, 2x50kg each wing.
250-500kg centreline, 300l droptank each wing.

I think with eight 50kg bombs and 2x20mm you could kill a fair number vehicles in one sortie.

Or with two 300l droptanks and a 500kg bomb you could fly a crazy low-level jabo run deep into enemy territory.

Visually the F-8 would require a different cockpit hood(I think?), and a new paintjob. The FM should be the same as the A-8, except for the extra drag from the wing racks.

I think the F-8 would be a good choice for the next version of Fw 190, unless of course the D-9 is chosen instead.

FYI the A-8, F-8, and G-8 were built with both styles of Fw 190 canopy.  So the current A-8 canopy (old style) is fine.

Also I believe the G-8 did not have cowl MG 131's, and some F-8's had these guns omitted as well.

Actually the G-8 was discontinued in favour of the F-8 fitted with the appropriate wing racks, which I didn't actually make clear.   For the guns simply have two .ord options for the fixed guns, one with 13mm and one without.

With the movable head position in AH, I was thinking the "blown" style canopy on the F-8 would allow for a better view forward around the nose, important for jabo work.

Either way the point is; by modelling a late production F-8 AH could have all the jabo options available for the Fw 190 in one plane.
