Purpose of Kill Shooter
« on: October 17, 2001, 06:26:00 PM »
What is the purpose of kill shooter inflicting damage on your aircraft.  I understand why you dont wan't the ability to kill your own country-mates.   But you go over a target with a bomber and hit a hanger w/ a friendly GV beside it, and you take the damage.  Why can't the damage to you = 0?  I can't figure a good reson out.

It's to deter people from shooting over someone else to get the kill.

There is no bad side effect if you don't get damaged for shooting another friendly, therefore, there is no deterence.

When it really sucks is when you are in a high G firing situation and some yahoo blows by trying to HO your prey.  I never seem to miss in this one.

My opinion:

damage a friendly, lose a few perks.

kill a friendly, lose a lot of perks.

kill 2 fiends in an hour, lose a lot of perks and booted off the server.

F.

hehe, a interesting idea would be to ask the friendly that was shot if they would like to subtract 0, 1, 3 or 5 perk points from the shooter.

It also eliminates 40 meg of BBS server space to handle the whines.

Ex-

I was in a special event on a Buff mission. Killshooter off, realism mode on.

We approached our target and the flak was lighting everyone up. In another B17, "Mr.T" (made up callsign) had a gunner onboard calling all kinds of hits from it. They were taking damage.

A bunch of 109's attacked us and I took a long tracking shot from the ball turret at one. I started to hit the 109 all the way till he flew past "Mr T". I inadvertantly hit Mr. T's B17 for a split second as well being focussed on the 109, as i saw the hit sprites.

With all the flak damage and some from the 109, about 30 seconds after him his wing broke from I guess speed and damage, and down he went.

SYSTEM: Creamo Kills Mr. T

That little hit was not enough to damage the buff for a out right kill no way, but when the 109 and flak and speed did in the wing, score enough to get credit.

Need I mention the ensuing barrage of "Im telling HTC! You bastard! Im reporting you now!" and on and on and on... He wanted the CM's to do this, change killshooter settings, etc. You get the point. And that's just one isolated SE.

Thats my account of it. Aint worth it.  :)

I think yall are missing my point.  I agree with the ability of not inflicting damage on a friend.  Just the "killing yourself" part seems useless.  It doesn't deter someone from attempting to KS.  And quite often, seems to kill the person who initially got the kill solution set up (KSer jumps in front of the rightful killer [if there is such a thing as rightful killer]).  Bombs seem to be particularly good example of this.  I drop a bomb at ~2k , and someone drives the tgt for a strafe solution.  My bomb hits as he passes, and POOF im dead.  Park a M16 inside an enemy VH and watch how fast folks trying to drop the VH will get pissed at you.

itd be best to make killshooter damage = 0.

Face it, if someone wants to steal your kill by sitting in front of you, the killshooter will hurt YOU not him. If some moron thinks its funny to shooot at his own team, by all means, let him... he wont do any damage.

The ONE thing that has to be fixed along with this is the drunks getting killed by friendly fire.

Ive seen one too many jerks purposely strafing friendly troops to sabotage a capture. That is just wrong. Its even worse than shooting your teammate.

Shooting friendly aircraft should not be acceptable.  Nor should dropping bombs on friendly ground vehicles.

We should consider banning all killing in the arena.  Maybe shooting someone should result in sending them a virtual hug...

Host:  Hug of Fatty awarded to Sally

See?  That way nobody gets mad.  Except maybe fatty and sally and all the other goofs that were staring at sally's butt during the con.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Err I thought killshooter was there so people could swoop down, up, from port or starboard, fly effortlessly through your cannon stream, give the guy you were just gonna kill a proxy kill on you, miss the shot entirely cause they can't shoot properly, overshoot in front of the guy you were gonna kill, get killed by the guy you were gonna kill, then complain to ya cause you did'nt help them clear their six??

I think killshooter is fediddleing stupid imo.  I like to get real close to a target before I open fire, 200D is perfect.  So I'll be on some cons six for a while, wearing their E down, I'll park nice 300D - 200D on the cons six, then some #$#@$ will come up behind me and start blowing tracers over the top of my plane trying to scare me off the kill?  I'm always checking six even in a 1 v 1 cause you never know when another con's gonna come along, so I don't break off cause I see my "M8" coming.  What does he do? Stops firing, fly's through my six, right through my plane just as I fire, bang ded.

Now don't tell me thats not fediddleing deliberate cause it happens all the time.

In fact happened yesterday, flying as Celery, my spitfire suddenly has these big friggin P38 wings, I'm thinking what the fek, bang, flew straight thru me, gave the guy the proxy, missed the shot, I flew back, he's getting his bellybutton kicked by this guy, I kill the guy and wtf my killshooter friend gets the kill, even though I ripped this plane to peices. Go figure.

Killshooter sux.  It only ever hurt newbies and people who work for the kill.  The kill stealer always fly's away scot free.

I like killshooter.  Never has it killed me when I wasn't pushing a shot that I really wouldn't try if I cared for the life of my teammate, and there should be some penalty for that (you can even file it under SA if you want).

Killshooter will remain in the MA. HT and pyro have seen the alternative and killshooter is much better. At least I hope it stays. You know, I dont think I have been killshootered more than a couple of times in since AH wen't pay for play. It isn't that hard to avoid.

I like killshooter just the way it is.  But then, I don't fly the turners and I avoid the many-chasing-one-con fights.  The only time (that I know of) where I was subjected to killshooter was when I tried to shoot an enemy off the tail of a friendly IL2.  We were all in a straight shallow dive and I guess my bullets missed and hit my friendly.  Text read something like Victory 1 Moron over IL2.  Victory 2 Moron over Puke.  I laughed at that one and then learned from it.  No more shooting straight at con in between me and a friendly in close proximity.
