Aviation History Quiz Question
« on: January 28, 2001, 09:41:00 PM »
In 1920, a very strange airplane was entered into the Gordon Bennett Cup race, at Etampes, France. Designed and manufactured in the U.S., this aircraft featured a fully enclosed cockpit and retractable landing gear. Most unusual was its single cantilever (no external bracing or wires), variable (adjustable) camber wing. The plane suffered an engine failure early in the race, and did not get a chance to exploit its 200 mph+ speed.

Can you name this airplane?
