I hope this isn't a TOS violation. I didn't want to start a new thread if one already existed. I'll hitchhike on Golfer's sentiments.
I just learned that my 95 year old father will be taking an Honor Flight in a couple of weeks. I hadn't heard of this organization before. My dad will be flying with a group of vets and escort "guardians" who make sure the old guys are taken care of properly. They'll visit the WWII memorial, then other sites, and return the same day. Don't you wish you could hear the real "war stories"?
What a fantastic organization. Their goal is make sure every WWII vet has the opportunity to visit the WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. They have a sense of urgency because WWII vets are dying off at an estimated 1000 per day. They now use commercial airlines. Southwest Airlines is a major sponsor. They do not charge the vets. They will not accept donations from WWII vets because they have sacrificed enough. My donation check is in today's mail.
Our participation in this game has increased our interest in WWII. We have relatives who could directly benefit from this organization. This is a cause we can support. Check out their work at
www.honorflight.org. Send them a check. Buy a t-shirt. Volunteer.
HONK!
