Phone Scam: Area Code 876 from Jamaica
« on: October 08, 2009, 04:22:53 PM »
Got a call on my cell phone today. ID said it was from Jamaica, so I was immediately suspicious (I don't know anyone from Jamaica).  I let it ring out, not answering it.  When the ringing stopped, the caller did not leave a message, so I got on Google and checked for phone scams from a 876 number.  Yep, it's a scam.  The 876 area code is the same as a 1-900 number in that it charges you per minute.  In addition, whomever set up the number can add additional per/minute charges that automatically get added by your service provider to your phone bill.  Bottom line, don't answer any calls from this area code, and don't return any calls from it. :salute
