I've had the same 3D Pro for 3 years now, and it still works fine.
Agreed. If you don't want to get a twisty stick, a Logitech Attack 3 is a great stick as well, very sturdy, but has no hat. I've been use the Attack 3 for 3 years in other games, so I can account for its sturdiness.

The 1% minority that do NOT get crappy logitech sticks are greatly outnumbered by those that experience (repeatedly) crappy manufacturing on Logitech's part.

More likely to win the lottery than to get a reliable logitech 3D extreme.

That's odd, my school's aviation club should never have to worry about funding then. And yet they do.

Ya know what enkre? Defend it all you want. 99% of the flight sim universe derides Logitech sticks for crappy quality. The fact YOU like it, is only a gift. Enjoy it. That you can be happy with them, is a good thing.

Others can't, most times. So I'll just leave it at "If you like it, fine" and I'll encourage everyone to avoid the brand in general.

P.S. They also make crappy wireless mice.

Logitech= cheap, sturdy, learners sticks, completely lacking in almost all aspects of a higher end stick.

Don't really want to get in some annoying war over manufacturers, but Logitech while not good at Joystick making (G940 looks promising though), they do have reliable and durable other products.

As for a good beginner stick, the Saitek Av8tr seems rather nice.  Been using it (Hate Saitek, but needed a stick) for a few months now, decent ergonomics, plenty of buttons and dual throttle.  Only cost about 45$ for me. :)

Ever since I started playing what could be called a flight sim (X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Fury 3), I had both the serial and the USB Sidewinder and Sidewinder Pro. Served me great for over 10 years, never skipped a beat. About a year or two ago though, I decided I needed to invest in a better stick for AHII. Picked up an ST290 Pro for around $25, never looked back. Great stick for the price. Nice to learn on. I still want to get a nicer stick and some pedals. TrackIR would be nice, too. But I'll stick with this new screen I got in the interim. It actually raises doubts about whether or not I have the juice to run games at such a large resolution. :rock

MS Sidewinder Precision Pro. If you can find it in USB all the better.

Decent ergonomics, 2-handed placement (one hand on base, buttons for that hand plus throttle) and it's fairly reliable as far as accuracy goes (no pots! all light/sensors for stick position).
I'm still flying with a 10 yr old Precision Pro USB. Mine came as a serial plug but it has a USB adaptor. Love the stick, though I stopped using the base buttons in favor of putting my left hand on a mouse (mouse look, throttle, flaps, a few snap views mapped to it).

I stopped using the base because I got a throttle quadrant. Still have a few non-essential stuff mapped to it.

Just curious since we use the same stick: have you ever had any problems with a loose center?

I need to have a slight dead zone because both my Twist axis and my X axis are a bit loose near the center. Still love the stick, but it could just be that much better without this problem.

Not a fan of Logitech sticks, mice, or keyboards in the least but I do have a nice set of speakers from them that work great IMO. X-540... or something like that I think,
