Arena differences
« on: October 13, 2009, 12:40:08 PM »
I am not really sure where to ask this..

What are the differences between the main arenas and SEA  (II in particular)  Last night (mine) while the mains servers had a couple of beers I went to SEAII... I noticed a big difference in Framerates so put on full detail and was surprised to find I held a better framerate overall than in the mains... even with 10 of so planes and close to the ground and water....I did notice that the water areas were way less defined I suppose the ground was too. Also on loading there was a note about using converted map....

So really, I'm just wanting to find out what differences there are

Some actually found that they had bad framesrates...but mine increased...weird

I think the biggest differences are the maps available.  The SEA can use custom maps, the Mains have to have specially HTC-approved-main-arena maps.  Also the SEA can have different arena settings for everything from clouds to wind to radar display (and range), etc.  Any combination of these factors can cause the differences you and others experience.

The message about the terrain being converted means it is an old style terrain the server does a quick modification to in order for it to work.

If you want to emulate the impact in other arenas, disable all the "Advanced" options in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel.  Essentially, that is what the game does when it has to run an old style terrain.
