Need help picking a video card
« on: October 14, 2009, 04:01:10 AM »
So my computer crapped out on me last week and I'm searching for a new setup. The two computers I'm looking at are pretty much equal except the video cards. I don't have a lot of money right now so this is all I can afford I just want to know which would run AH better:

AMD Radeon HD3450 256 MB PCI-Express

-or-

NVIDA GeForce 7300 LE Video 256MB

Plus if any of you have these cards can you tell me if they support the self shadow effect in AH.
Once known as ''TrueKill''.

I'm afraid both these cards are sub-par quality and you won't be able to turn self shadow on at all in game. These cards value 30-40 dollars and are probably 4-5 years old architectures.

Are these included in some branded computer package? I would try to find a way (a friend or DIY) to build my own box instead. Branded cheap computers contain huge compromises, old hardware and lowest quality components. Even though they may seem cheap they're generally speaking a waste of money in the long run.

A friend of mine bought a box 'cheap' even though I warned him not to. I offered to put a box together for him.

Well, he bought the box. 6 months later he bought a game that wouldn't run on it. Turns out he had to swap the power supply and the displaycard for new ones bringing up the total cost to 30% higher than what he would have paid if I built the proper box straight away. He also had to mod the case and add ventillation for the new GPU as it overheated the box. And still he's stuck with a crappy motherboard with no overclocking options and a budget cpu. I pointed my finger and did the Simpsons 'hee heee!' on him.
