Skin Download help please
« on: October 15, 2009, 10:51:40 AM »
Hi all,

Any help would be appreciated.  I have downloaded different plane skins in the past.  And have recently downloaded some for another plane I have started flying (Spit 8).  When I log into the game, all the skins I have downloaded are red and can still only select the default skin.  I suspect in the past I had downloaded all the skins so perhaps that is why the skins are showing up in the select list.

I have gone into the skins folder in AH and deleted the skins I downloaded....thinking they were corrupted by a previous download and re-downloaded them.  I still have the same problem...only the default skin is available and the others are red (non-selectable).

Any ideas on how to resolve this would be appreciated (short of reinstalling the whole game again). :)

Did you place them in the right folder when you downloaded them. Skins folder. Just a thought.

Did you download AH approved skins or player skins?  :bolt:

Also note, if you have the game installed in the "Program Files" fodler on Vista/Windows 7, then your skins are not where you think they should be as Vista/Windows 7 is actually accessing them through a virtual directory Vista/Windows will create for you.

So if you install a skin in what you think is the right place, it is not where Vista/Windows 7 will look for it.

Wrag, I downloaded them from the AH website under "downloads----> skins", will assume they are approved skins.

Skuzzy....I run Windows XP, could these also be in a virtual area ?  I am not at home so can't look at the actual directory, but am thinking they are where I thought they are supposed to be.  :(

Why don't you just use the auto download option for the skins...or are you working off a slow connection?

I had that same issue a few revs back but for some reason if I allowed the auto download function to grab all of the skins available...no problems.

Hi gyrene81, you hit the nail on the head.  Takes a looooooooong time to download for me that way.

I guess I will just fly with the defaults or set up a day I don't mind logging on and doing no flying while the autodownloader of skins does its thing.  I get to fly so rarely that I hate to waste that sort of time.  :(

Thanks for the attempt at helping guys.

If you are on XP, then all you had to do is to download the skins into the "skins" folder.  Just remember that we changed the base default installation folder from "C:\Program Files" to "C:\HiTech Creations".

Just right-click on your "Aces High" startup ICON, select "Properties" and see where the target is.  That should tell you where the "skins" folder will be.

Hi Skuzzy,

You are up way too early for a Saturday morning.  The folder "skins" is in my C:\Hitech Creations directory.  The files I downloaded are in the skins folder.  This is why I am unsure why I can't select them from the menu in the hangar.  :frown:

Guess I should also note that I downloaded some of the 109G-2 skins about 3 or 4 months ago.  They are in the same folder "skins" in the HTC directory and ARE selectable in game from the hangar screen.

Not sure if that helps or further confuses the situation.....just FYI.

Check to see if you have a "skins.res" file in the "skins" folder.  Make sure it not set to read-only.  If it is, remove the file. Go into one of the online arenas and wait for it to be sent again.

In the "skins" folder, there should only be files.  No other folders.  All the files are type "RES file".
