"Ground compressibility" / "Propdrag"

"Ground compressibility" As this is the 1st Sim that Models it (I think) & I , personaly have never flew a real A/C ... what is "ground compressability" /How does it affect my Aircraft ?

Propdrag : I noticed the increased time that it now takes to get some smash, the loss of speed while landing etc... When I now start a dive, what should I do to have maximum performance ? How will propdrag affect the dive ?

P38: at high speed, I have a sudden loss of controls, then...CLANG...BOUM ! Is my joystick playing funny tricks or is it the A/C ? I didn't have this  happen to me with other birds...

Hmm, i assume you mean Ground Effect? This is where within about 1/2 a wingspan from the ground your wing generates more lift, since the air being pushed down by it hits the ground. Makes landings easier, and makes it harder to fly into the ground at low level (I noticed that it takes quite a bit of nose down trim to stay at treetop level now).

Prop drag will slow your dives down a little, I guess you could shut the engine down (auto-feathering the prop, if the plane has variable pitch prop(s)), but since you might need it at the bottom, that'd be a little silly  . Personally I welcome the added drag on landings, even though you might have to land with a little throttle on to lower your sink rate on final.

About the P-38, dunno. The P-51 feels better than ever, that's all I know  .

I can't quite put it into words yet, but this "CLANG...BOUM " thing you mention... I've expereinced this on a number of occasions now (I think)... In other AC besides the 38.

It's kinda like... something pauses, then kicks back in, overcompensating and throwing my AC outta plane briefly untill I manually reign her back in..like...uhm..atta loss..

I haven't identified a cause and effect relationship... and actually... I thought I was the only one who was on the receiving end of this. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for it a bit more, seeing as it may not be my imagination after all.

The "Clang BOOM" thing might be.....the WIND!

Go try it.  New DOT command.  .wind

The wind in this game has a "layer" to it.  It goes up to 30,000 feet, but the server can control the minimum altitude the wind layer is at.  From ground level to that altitude there is no wind.

Unfortunatly, there is no transition between the moving and non moving air.  You just get slammed intantly in the direction the wind is going, and your plane has to weather-vane till its flying forward again.  Its not gentle.

Hans.

Also what you might experience at high speed is the compressability and mach-tuck effect SAW .. going very fast in the HOG causes to loose all control andthe a/c pitches down on its own getting even faster .. you can only get your nose up with trim (very slowly) and as soon as you're out of compression the airplane will respond normal to all inputs (also to your full up trim .. ripped my wings cause of that ...)

Had the "transition" rip the stabs off my Niki last night.  No fun.

HT was online later and said something about changing the transition to 1000 ft, so maybe it can be made less (cough) abrupt.

LOL Nash...be  cool.  We're all cast from the same online sims mold!

I think what Saw was referring to was the first online sim to simulate ground effect.  I believe it is, not 100% positive.

Warbirds has prop drag and ground effect.

Thats why I have wanted it sooooo bad in AH.

Yes, the P51 is a dream to fly and fighting without tracers is a nerve tingling experience (I dont recommend it
