About F6F FM and others

Gents,

There seem to be a few people getting bent out of shape about the stall model of the F6F, P-38 and others. Just an FYI to those about to go ballistic or hide a Carrier fleet in their shorts.

About a month ago I spoke to Pyro about fixing the F4U-1D FM. He told me that it would be fixed however it was going to be at the same time as the F4U-1 and F4U-4 so he could do them all at once. He said it wasn't going to be version 1.07 however. What's the point of this you ask?

Well part of what is wrong with the F4U is stall speed with flaps. So if he is fixing stalls and flaps it will probably cover the F6F(stall) and P-38(flap) problems. So be patient and pray for 1.08

"same time as the F4U-1 and F4U-4 so he could do them all at once."

Wishful thinking?  :D

Does the f4u use fowlers? Then the FM would cover the 38 I quess? Wonder if the Dive Breaks are on the burner too?

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

This is a pretty good site for WW2 aviation stuff:

Nice P-38 article there:

Heya's,

Yes he said the the F4U-4.
It was something like this..

Me> So Pyro, when are you going to fix the F4U-1D.
Pyro> When we do the F4U-1 and F4U-4 so I can do all the F4U stuff all at once.
Me>         :D ok.

So you see I'm not making this up.

RA,

What I was complaining about in the F4U-1D is the stall speed (especially with flaps) and climb rate based on some charts posted here.F4U-1D performance charts

But the issues with the stall for the F4U apply to the P-38 and P-51 as well. Really anything with flaps used for maneuvering.

So I am saving my perkies, waiting for my -4.

Eh, not that much whining.

1) It will probably be a somewhat inexpensive perk..

2) There were NO F4U-4s with cannons in WWII. There are a number of books that confused F4U-1Cs with F4U-4s and state otherwise, but they have been shown to be incorrect.

Production included 2050 F4U-4s with six .50 guns, 297 F4U-4Bs or F4U-4Cs with four 20mm cannon, a single F4U-4N nightfighter
conversion and nine F4U- 4P reconnaissance modifications. The F4U-4 arrived late in WWII, and served only during the last four months of the conflict.

I would assume we're getting the .50 cal version, or Pyro would have been specific with 4B or 4C model?

Hmmm, why is it assumed that the F4U-4 would be perked? I suppose it depends partly on which performance data you look at...  ;)

Juzz,

Is this stuff from that web page above correct?

Maximum speed:
F4U-1: 417 mph @ 19,900 ft.
F4U-4: 446 mph @ 26,200 ft.

Rate of climb:
F4U-1: 3,250 ft/min.
F4U-4: 4,170 ft/min.

A 4k roc is fine by me!

LOL "should it be perked".

4k ROC and otherwise performance on par or better than the F4U's we have.

Give the A5 a ROC of 4.1k/min and that kinda top speed, and you'll see why it'd be a good idea to make it a perk plane.

It'd outperform the ta-152 bigtime at all but above 20k altitudes, and let's face it; 90% of fights are below that alt.
