Give the A5 a ROC of 4.1k/min and that kinda top speed, and you'll see why it'd be a good idea to make it a perk plane.

It'd outperform the ta-152 bigtime at all but above 20k altitudes, and let's face it; 90% of fights are below that alt.

Yeah! Perk the Dorka!

I know where the XF4U-4 is and can go take pics if needed. Sat in a bit and talked to guys who flew it in Korea. (pic below) Sweet roomy bird. Not as roomy as a P-47. And that long nose is a squeak to see around. But the 6 view is excellent.

This was a long, long time ago, so I hope I have the story right, but I was involved in the debate...

Pyro added the F4U-4 to Warbirds with cannons....it was later discovered after much debate, research, and wailing and gnashing of teeth, that there were no cannon F4U-4s in WWII, and that a number of sources were incorrect on this manner. So he took the cannons off.

So I doubt he'd do it again :-)

Found this info, dunno how accurate it is, but it seems to me that there **Might** have been some cannon- 4's before the end of the war  :D

F4U-4 1944 = Upgraded 2350hp R-2800-18W, new cowl design, four-bladed prop; armament: six .50 guns, eight wing rockets, two 1000# bombs; length: 33'8" load: 3215# v: 446/215/89 range: 1005 ceiling: 41,500'. Production also scheduled by Goodyear as FG-4, but contract was cancelled and none built.

F4U-4B 1945 = POP: 287 scheduled for RNAS as Corsair I, but cancelled with the end of hostilities.
F4U-4C 1945 = Four 20mm cannons. POP: 297.

F4U-4E 1946 = Night fighter with APS-4 radar. POP: possibly only 1.

F4U-4K 194? = Radio-controlled target. POP: 1.
