F-16 down, pilot missing
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:19:36 PM »
2 F-16s from Shaw AFB collided last night, during over-water training.  One flew home, the other remains missing after over a day of searching.

http://www.acc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123173018

The missing pilot, Capt Nick Giglio, was a T-37 instructor at Sheppard AFB.  He left here around a year ago to fly vipers.  We're all hoping and praying for a miracle, but chances of survival in the open ocean drop fast over time even if he managed to eject.

If you have a prayer to spare, Nick and his family could sure use it.

Update - He apparently never had a chance.  The official word is that the impact was in the canopy area and he didn't have a chance to eject, so they're switching to a "recovery" operation.  Nick left behind a wife and young child.
