Last year I stopped a man drunk off his butt, attempting to get in his pickup and drive.  I didn't know him, was just driving by in the wee hours of the morning and saw him as I passed.  The dude could barely walk, much less drive.  So I stopped, tried to talk him out of driving for a minute, then when he made it clear he was going to drive, I decided to pull him put of the truck.  I wasn't forceful or anything, just had my hand on his arm and was trying to talk him into getting out.  He leaned over toward the middle of his truck with his head down and it looked like he was gonna get sick or pass out.  Actually, he was going for his hunting knife.  At the angle I was standing at, I never saw it.  Suddenly the guy hits me in the forehead with something that dazed me good, knocking to my knee.  His door was still open and now I was ticked, so I pulled him out and pounded him a few times until I knew he was really done fighting with me.  I called the cops, who got there about 5 minutes later.  When they arrived, they were looking at me all wide eyed and called for an EMS.  I thought it was for the drunk, who I'd thumped on pretty good.  To my surprise, the EMS was for me.  Turns out the guy didn't hit me in the forehead, he'd stabbed me in it.  I didn't even know.  I thought I'd been sweating nicely, as it was summer and my adrenaline had been pumping.  Turns out I was covered in blood, not sweat.  I didn't even know.

So anyway, be careful when messing with drunk strangers lol.  I brought this topic up because I just compared pics from the day it happened & one I took yesterday.  IMO it didn't scar too bad at all.  Btw, thank you to all my squaddies who called me FrankenRanger after showing them photos on our BBS after it happened.  Turds.

Day after & now:

I think this deserves alittle RANGER love :D

The reward of the world is ungratefulness... (How do you put this correctly in english anyway)
Some years back, I was in a merry crowd of the company where my wife worked and we were drinking and frequently toasting with a group of Finnish people. The location: Vilnius in Lithuania. Anyway, everyone was somewhat drunk and to my surprize, most more than me.
So, the Finnish (3 women, one man, he was probably about 60 or so) prepared for departure, and the guy suddenly went rolleyes and collapsed on the floor. Nobody seemed to care, so I went and checked on the guy. He had a pulse, but very very slow, and he was not breathing at all. One minute past, and no breathing, I decided to take action, - either get him breathing by shock (In the farming this is something you learn when you have nursed hundreds of calving cows)...or if necessary, "the kiss of life"  :devil
I twisted his ears and so on, which is quite a harmless pain barrier issue, but of no result. Then I smacked him on his cheeks. Slap slap. This is normally what you do to a calf that doesn't "boot up" after birth. And PRESTO! The guy gulped air and came to his senses. Looked at me and was breathing.
Happily, I helped him on his wobbly feet together with some part of the crowd that were slowly coming to their senses. And what next? He punched me from point blank, straight on the nose!!! Of course he was in no condition to fight me, but the exchange there is so sad. I saved his life and he gave me a bloody nose   :furious

Thank you for taking the drunk off the street. Anyone that drinks and drive is the biggest kind of loser IMO.

The only time I hit people they end up meeting the doc. So, I quit that. Still doesn't keep me out of trouble, and especially since I am a helpful guy and somewhat not the person that simply scurries away when somebody is in trouble.
By the way, both the overconsuption of alcohol as well as a hit on the back of the head can cause the breathing function to stop. The guy had both. And the cure is either oxygen, or a shock. I was told afterwards by an ambulance personell. So, I stumbled on exactly the right "cure", and even if it left me with a bloody nose, I am very glad to have taken exact this action. And, one learns. I was the only one in a group of more than 10 to do anything at all, and if it hadn't been done, the guy would have either died or toasted his brain. And this can apply to much younger people, - there was recently a death in britain from a pint of vodka. Same thing.
So, I hope that the whole forum reads this. Good to know.

If you stop breathing, you are braindead before the police/ambulance even arrive. What saves you is the odd person in the crowd around you.
Remember that, and you may save a life one day.
The feeling is rewarding.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.  This is actually old news (over a year ago) I had just never compared pics before now.  The guy has a wife & kids so I made an out-of-court deal with him and the judge.  250 hours of community service of my choice and prison time suspended.  I'm a family man myself & didn't want to tear one apart for one mistake.  I'm not into suing people, he just had to cover what my insurance didn't, less than a grand I believe.  Since I handled it on my own, there were no real legal fee for either of us to worry about.  He'd accepted my conditions & this has been a closed matter for some time now.  I live in a small town and we cross paths once in awhile.  We never speak but usually will exchange a nod.  All in all, I never had any pain from it, the stitches just itched for a week or so.  I'm just glad I didn't end up with the Grand Canyon down my forehead. :lol  It pays to be hard-headed sometimes. ;)

Btw Junky, great video! :rofl

Did you make him go to AA?  If not, you should, you may be doing something more than just saving his life.
