Anyone using the Evga Geforce GTX 260 vid card?
« on: October 18, 2009, 01:18:56 PM »
I'm reading that there are alot of problems with the Evga Geforce GTX 260.   I need something that is greater than 512 meg.  What do you use?   :headscratch:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
850 watt power
4 gig memory ( 1600 )

I recommend 9800 GTX but why do you need more than 512Megs?
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I think I was reading a benchmark article over at tomshardware a few weeks ago about memory size for video cards.  To sum it up, unless you're running really high monitor resolutions over 1080p or higher, 512-768 cards run everything just fine.

What are these 'problems' you're running into?  Are you sure its the video card's fault and not something else?  Drivers? Other hardware? etc?

no problems.  i am in the market and will buy a vid card with in 24 hours.
i am reading bad reviews on the gtx 260 on new egg and tiger direct.  some of the cards
are lasting 3 weeks some months and a few were DOA.  I don't want to buy
more than i need.  but i do want a good one.

I'd get one of the new ATI cards if I was buying right now.  Even the ATI 5770 and 5750 cards support 3 monitor gaming at decent resolutions, and on one monitor they'd be really nice with FSAA, etc.  You can get them at the same price or cheaper than an nvidia 260 now.

Look here for a review with real-world gameplay considerations:  http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/10/12/amd_ati_radeon_hd_5770_5750_review

I'd never buy a video card, from any brand that doesn't offer a lifetime warranty.  The same goes with RAM.

dont pay a lot of attention to the reviews at newegg and tiger direct.  I kindda suspect that some of them i just made up by the "competition".  If u read the reviews some of them are posted many times by the same person, just look at the writing style.  the only thing that I found really consistent is that you wont get the rebates in a few weeks.  it will be months and in some cases after many e-mails.

semp

btw i have 2 vc that have lifetime warranty they still work but there obsolete.

I forgot to mention, I have an MSI GTX 260 right now (the older variant), and I really like it.  It's fast and pretty much every game runs nice on it (I only have 1280x1024 monitors) but just doesn't have the features of the brand new AMD/ATI 5xxx cards.

Same....  Runs great and is way overkill for my needs....
Had I not the deal I did, I'd probably still be running my 9600GT(which was also more than enough to run AH balls to the wall)..
