More water troop carriers???
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:35:51 AM »
I heard on the military channel about a amphibous vehicle called the duck. I think it is an alternative to the lvt2. What do you think? :neener:

Sure they were armed, but a Ma Deuce on a soft-skinned vehicle is for morale purposes only...

There was a provision for a machine gun mount, but it usually relied on the troops guns inside for firepower. Slower than an LVT in the water, but it will smoke the LVT in the 1/4 mile once feet dry.

Try non-existent.  It was basically a really thin boat hull built around a transport truck.  A quote from Wiki-"It was not an armored vehicle, being plated with sheet steel between 1/16" and 1/8" thick to minimize weight."

Faster than an M3, but with less armor...

I have an idea. Why not the Hadahtsu landing craft, sometimes called the hadahtsu barge. I know it isn't amphibious, so it probably see use in taking bases with towns RIGHT on the coast, as opposed to inland a couple K.

It was simmilar to the U.S. Higgens boats. Bout the only difference is it had a ramp that folded up, and a lightly armored driver compartment if I have the right one....
