Awesome videos, think that just inspired me to seek training in the 38 and make it a regular ride.  Seems now i just end up compressing or going into a stall all the way to the ground. :salute

It was a P38L, you can tell by the left wing edge landing light.

Ethell was one of the foremost experts and had written many books prior to his death in a P38. I treasure the few books I have of his in my collection...

I've got this DVD, a squadron mate gave me it to me a few years ago.  The first part with Ethell is a remake of the USAAF WW2 P-38 training film of the same name.  You can view the original at Zeno's Drive-In.

now i know what that little grey oval is on the engine naceles. it would be neat if there was a reasonable way for them to model that into the game.

glad you guys are enjoying it. i intended to post, and go to bed. i sat up and watched all 5 parts last night. (insert drooly icon)

It is rather misleading on certain things, such as the P-38's issue with compressibility.  He makes it sound as though that was caused by the P-38 being so streamlined that it went to the speed where it compressed, whitewashing the fact that designs like the Spitfire and P-51 could go significantly faster before they compressed.
