Black holes in the terrain!?
« on: June 22, 2000, 02:59:00 AM »
Er, no, sorry, that's the new smoke from field installations burning  .

Seriously, though, 1.03 is really great, adding all that stuff without any performance issues, and the P-51 still flies as sweet, if not sweeter than before. The only problem I have is that damn smoke, it's just too black, and too dense. Maybe it looks like that in reality, but personally I'm not willing to put up with it, when every other aspect of the update was so good.

Thin out the black smoke so I can fly around airfields again, please.

I love this version also... but yah... this field smoke thing... My problem isn't really about the density... I just don't like the dang *shape* of it.

I heard someone say it looked like an afro. Tend to agree.

IMHO it'd be better to thin the column up quite a bit, or spread it right out like the clouds or tank smoke.

As it is, it looks like a static *object* or something.

Think the shape has to do with modeling problems.. if they make it to thin it will fry your Graphics chip.. A solid object with a little smoke on the outside is much more framerate friendly,,

The smoke looks super realistic, when viewed from up close. Odd hoever when seen from a distance.
I did hear HiTech mention he would be working on the FPS issue with them. And somewhere  someone mentioned Pyro was working on them too.
