I would say 47M holds E better.  It makes you stay honest in a furball without trying any tricks.  IMO

Ive seen so many people flying the M-jug low and slow, expecting it to climb like a 109, and turn like a Spit16, and accelerate like a P38. The end result is them getting shot down.

Climb to 10k from dead stop on runway, in minutes, seconds and hundredths of seconds. 25% fuel, 6 guns with 267 rounds for P-47s.
P-51D: 3:14.47
P-47D-40: 3:00.88
P-47M: 2:50.56
F4U-4: 2:48.44
Nearly a dead heat between the F4U-4 and P-47M.

Here is a better way to put it then, Mr SR :) It's E retention is far less than all of the F4U's and a lot of the planes in the game. It can burn off that E and not get it back, faster than most planes, and I fly alot of planes, I know.

Ive been flying the M abit this camp and it is a nice plane. I dont fly the 1a much so I cant really say much about it. Both planes do feel alot heavier when low and slow than say the P40E, but it is nice shooting planes that normally walk away from the P40. I like the roll in the M, its quicker than I thought it would be. And of course the guns are nice. Best chance of a kill awarded than any other bullet armed plane, when competing with friendly cannon birds. I dont really fly it or any of the faster planes as I should though, and I usually end up on the deck fighting a couple. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. But its fun either way, and you can make the M do some nice stuff slow(reminds me of the FM2 in rudder response).

It is hard for me to say the M is a better aircraft than the F4u-1A or the other way around. I can't fly either one for the life of me. They both feel like light bombers and make big targets when I fly them. I wish I could fly F4Us better, because those that I fight in the MA, with pilots that know how to fly them, kick my butt everytime. I always admire F4U pilots for what they can do in a dog fight with that plane and they seldom ever HO.

wow, the responses to my question are better than i hoped for. it sounds to me that it really depends how you like to fight. if you wanna just bnz only then the M is perfect. if you wanna do a little of everything then the -1A is your bird.

Rule #1
Quote
Speed is important! Said she cannot out-maneuver the Japanese fighters it should be obvious that to have any success in combat against them, speed is essential. If at all possible, keep your speed in combat at three hundred miles plus. Never slow down below 250 miles per hour once in a flight. There have been pilots who slowed down in combat, but they are no longer capable of telling you how dangers it is to do so.

There probably are no living pilots who can tell you how a Corsair turns with full flaps and gear down while in combat. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=9f72b5e735db5065ab1eab3e9fa335ca7e09ad12d236a637
