New definition of stupid...
« on: October 25, 2009, 06:29:59 PM »
Well, was on the golf course today that lies parallel to a runway of the local airport.  There's a lot of four-wheeler trails in the woods beside the course.  As usual, we heard the four-wheelers riding like they do every weekend, bit this time they didn't sound like they were in the woods.  About 5 minutes later my buddy taps me on the shoulder and points, "Looky there!"  On the runway was 5 four-wheelers.  Not only were they riding up and down the runways and taxiways, but they were racing and riding wheelies.  How ignorant can you get?  This continued all day until, finally, a car sped down to the.  Unfortunately the idiots got away...

call the cops? I'm pretty sure that's illegal in so many ways, and the FAA would love to find out who is doing something as dangerous and stupid as that. And not for their safety, the pilot taking off/landing the plane.

This is why we need more snipers. :D

Someone did call the cops but they never came.  I'm surprised the folks in the "tower" let them do it for so long.

You get into the woods fast enough with a 4 wheeler and the police cruiser won't go, he'll just call backup or put survellience the next day to catch em.

Exactly.  And they ran as soon as they saw him.  People in hell had a better chance of getting ice water than him catching the four-wheelers.

Had an incident like that at MVY. Guy was roaring around in his p/up on the tarmac, we had a fence - he crashed through it - license plate was found - embarrasing for him in the long run.

Snipers? Well sort of, I hired a guy for the mid to 8 shift cause he was a deer hunter - he loved it - everyone had venison for years.

They do except for the south end of one runway (hay field that turns into woods).  The airport is big enough for leer jets and one plane I never thought would land/take-off there  :lol

ya our airport(Winchester Regional Airpot, OKV) is pretty small, we do have charter jets and air taxi, the cool thing is that our runway is designed to support Air Force one in a emergency from Washington, DC. but we have a fence toped with barbwire all the way around the property, then we have a National Guard armory and Sheriffs office next to it lol!

The fact they did it all day says alot about that airport, hardly a clever thing for them to do, but theres obivously no ground controller, safety officers, ARFF or the like...either that or the local constabulary are as slow as a wet week.

That's my bet. ;) Hell, reported an armed breaking and entering, I was told by dispatch that there were no available officers, but one should be there in 20-30 minutes...

I never went four wheeling, but I used to take my girlfriend down to the airport to "watch the planes take off"...  :D

One night, i got a little turned around.  I was looking for my usual quiet corner but went wrong somewhere.  I knew i messed up when i saw out the window a little blue light on the ground... :headscratch:  and then the fuel truck...   :uhoh   and then the police lights.    That all happened in about ten seconds.  The cops were cool and directed me back out to the road.  Someone apparently left a gate open.  My date took it all in stride.  :o  The evening still ended well.  ;)  I bet she never forgets that night.

That was pre 9/11 by about 15 years.  Today i'd be afraid they'd shoot first, and ask questions later.
