Live in the Portland Oregon area?
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:11:14 AM »
Crappy news, Portlanders: 101.1 KUFO's Cort and Fatboy just got fired. There aren't a lot of details as of now, but it sounds like KUFO's getting a pretty major overhaul—and losing some of Portland's most talented radio personalities in the process. (The Rick Emerson Show, was also shown the door). As noted in Cort and Fatboy's final podcast, Chris Patyk—who was KUFO's program director—has also been fired. (The mysterious anonymous forces at Oregon Media Central claim that KUFO is bringing in a new program director, Dave "Ditch" Milan, out of San Diego.) Elsewhere in the rumor mill, word is that KUFO's bringing in some guy named Ricker from Seattle. Still no word on the fate of any other KUFO programs.

For the people not in the Portland area, you've probably never heard of Cort and Fatboy, but I'm sure you've seen something of their creation, ever seen/heard of Comedy Central show "Lil' Bush"? This show was based off of Cort and Fatboys "George W. Bush, Boy President."

Quote
Cort and Boomer never really did it for me, but when Fatboy came on, they totally hit the nerdy white guy demographic in a way that no other DJ has ever done it. I'm not sure if management ever figured that one out, (as far as I can tell, radio ads aren't very well targeted, they just go for raw numbers,) so it may not have been what they were looking for, but things like "George W Bush, Boy President" were total genius.

And now, 101.1 is "off air", with a "countdown for refueling the mothership." Portland area radio, just got suckier.

Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only
need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I stopped listening to KUFO when I got Sirius in the car. Lithium 24 does all that KUFO did and without the ads.

I hear now they're relaunching as a smooth-jazz station. The Joy!

Ricker is a hardrock jockey, from Orlando, San Diego, and Seattle... May have been dismissed for being obscene..
He was threatened with that multiple times in Seattle, for overtly sexual skits, and open marijuana advocacy...
"get your ankles behind your ears, baby" and "4:20PM bong rip" etc... He has a "player" style, I guess the youngsters like it, and he played latemodel "rock", with some good classics mixed in, at KISW, 99.9FM Seattle...

KISW, WAS the kingchit rock station up here for 30yrs, till the good DJ's left for KZOK, (ALL classic rock)...
Its never been the same since... Tunes for the kiddies now...

He's funny for a little while, Although you'll prob wanna smack him after a short while, just for GP...
But he may change his schtik completely, DJ's do that!!!!

rReally sucks for 101.1. Luckily I just moved back to Oregon from Seattle after finishing my naval service and I really enjoy Ricker. Any reason why all this went down?

Money. The stations are going for raw numbers, and obviously don't see this was the worst move they possibly could made.

I used to work with Cort's wife back when he was just starting out I believe. Never heard the show though as I don't listen to that station much.
