Relative to why most manufactuers (except for selected ones from WD - Seagate anymore?) have moved away from 5 year warranties.  Now 3 is the standard on 'most' drives.

please dont tell me the hd u got was a 1tb from hitachi ( just got mine from frys on sale for 50 which is the only reason i got it instead of the wd that i wanted.

my roommates Hitachi's 1TB tested bad.. just a note Hitachi's drives are really IBM's DeskStar line aka DeathStar.  IBM sold them thier HD division.

They (and I can't mention the company I bought from) are allowing me an even swap for the hard drive. If by some strange event the error continues with the new drive, I'll repost here.

The hard drive was a 1TB WD Caviar Black, similar to the 640gig I already have but larger.

I'm wondering if it is the way these HDs are being shipped that is causing much of the problem. Throwing the drive into a box with a few peanuts isn't real secure and really makes the thing bounce around inside.

I have a 10 year old 13 Gb Deskstar that still works fine but it's not in use anymore.  I tried to sell it on ebay but no one bit.  I did manage to get a pretty good price on a 9 year old 11 Gb TravelStar in perfect working order though.  I was surprised at what I got for it.

That's probably because 11 GB is 1% of a modern 1TB drive which costs $50. Did you get it for $0.5?  ;)

In regards to peanuts, if it isn't in an antistatic bag, I'd be worried about the chips getting fried. Styrofoam is the most horrible computer component packing material known to man. I'd rather it be in a tub of jello.

well i dropped my hitachi 1 tb new hd not once but twice yesterday, including the famous  try-to-catch-it-before-it-hits-the-floor kick and it still worked  :banana:.  guess i got lucky a piece of plastic came off it but heck who needs that extra sharp edge  :lol

Start making backups already. There's really no reason why computer components should be handled sloppy enough to drop them - a harddrive will get damaged from dropping it. If it won't fail immediately it's just a matter of time.

Got my faulty 1Tb drive RMA'd no problem. It was a Samsung Spinpoint F1 btw and not the first one the retailer had back either. They even slammed the old one down on the counter a few times (after testing) in front of me.

(apologies for bumping this thread but the reply is still relative)

I'm still having the Bzbzbzbzbzbzbz error in bios anytime I try and boot with the 2nd drive. This 1TB drive is a replacement for the other one, I'm assuming I couldn't get two bad drives, anyone else have any ideas what could be causing this error?

I've researched as much as I can on the net, everyone is saying it is a bad drive, but I'm not convinced. Here is a copy of someone's bios that shows the error that I have as well.



As soon as I disconnect the new drive, I can boot on my old drive. I had originally wanted to get a 2nd drive and run Win7-64bit off the new drive.

I'm thinking the only people that could debug that at this point would be the software and hardware engineers that created it.
