bzbzbzbzbz hard drive

I got a new 1TB hard drive I was going to install Windows 7 on. I added to my current 640gig HD and I was going to dual boot it eventually.

The problem is the new drive is giving me 'bzbzbzbzbzbzbz' error right out of the box, is this indicative of a defective HD?

There is no such error in windows are you referring to the sound the drive makes or what?

No, it is a bios reading.

I couldn't make that up, although it does sound it.

In which time the error occurs, during post and hardware detection or what? Which motherboard are you using and does the motherboard work without the new 1Tb drive normally?

It happens during hardware detection, when it lists the SATA devices.

I'm using the X-58.

The computer works just fine without the drive, it will eventually boot up but won't recognize the new drive in anyway, shape or form.

Flashing my bios? Just for a possible defective HD? Thanks for the suggestion but I disagree with that helping at all.

Bios won't even see the hard drive, when I boot and it lists the SATA devices it has the old HD, the 2 DVD and the 'BZBZB' drive.

So return it and have it tested if it's faulty they'll send you a new one.

Del are you running a PSU that is barely sufficient? Have you tried resetting the BIOS? Are you running with quick boot enabled? Are you running the hard drive through a onboard RAID controller?

Actually I was thinking you should check your current bios revision against the possibility that there is a newer one to resolve the issue. Looking at the "issues fixed" section in the new version will give you an idea if there is/was a known issue with a hard disk...I've seen it happen with DVD drives.

This is a bad drive from the maker.  The BIOS version sent with your system will see a 1T drive.  Swap out the drive and your good to go.

That make 2 bad 1TB drives posted here in 2 weeks.  Kinda makes you wonder about them.
