I loved that show! My brother and I watched it religiously.  Those Corsairs were beautiful, even if they were of mixed vintages, we didn't care.  Plot holes? So what!  As long as there was a dogfight scene at the end of every episode, we were cool with it. The theme is now my engine start-up sound effect. :)

I watched that show for the planes.  All the rest was filler.  The planes were the stars.

I was a kid watching them on the TV when they originall aired.  As a teenager watching re-runs, aside from the cool dogfights, I enjoyed "Pappy's Lambs".  best looking nurses on the island!!!!!!!! :aok

Ya loved this show. Its probably a big part of my interest in planes and ww2. I remember one year that it was going strong, a toy compamy came out with a playset that had 2 foam corsairs and a tropical airfiled that you could fold up into a briefcase. The corsairs would launch and fly off the field by a spring loaded thing(maybe it was rubber bands).

Made no difference.

When youre just starting to discover your love of aviation, nothing quite beats putting together a scale model of a Corsair on the floor (much to your mother's dismay) whilst watching Robert Conrad and Co. kick Tojo's butt.  Of course, painting the already dyed-blue plastic was not necessary.  One need only smear on enough glue to make it suitable for "playing" with around the house.  :D

Before they started filming, the Corsairs were parked along a road just outside Phoenix, all in a row.. all beat to crap in their original paint an such.
I stopped by this dirt lot they were sitting in and just walked around 'em .. -shakes head- .. didn't have my camera with me, would have made some awesome shots.

I was surprised by how small the rudder is, you can touch the top of it easily, ..but walk to the front and it's a stretch to reach the spinner.
That engine-prop is *huge* :)

Would have been a blast to fly.
