Joy stick issues
« on: October 27, 2009, 03:49:06 PM »
Guys, I have two members of the squad that all the sudden have joy stick issues that, so far, we have not been able to figure out.  Raptor, has put the symptoms into an email to me this morning and I'm going to share it here to see if anyone else has an idea of how to remedy it.  Thanks in advance for any assistance......

Hey guys...

Sorry I missed last night....but I WAS there.....

I signed on early...about 7:30 eastern and went into the training arena to see if I could find a way to make it work. Nothing. I could not take off without using auto take off...and once I was in flight, the slightest touch of the stick put me into a death spin.

I went out of the sim and went into the calibration app on my computer and the stick was perfectly calibrated...went back in the sim...calibrated each axis...and still could not fly.

Rudder seems to work as do all "rotations"....but the two axis's will not calibrate in the sim

The funny part is...when I tap the stick lightly and go into a spin, the sim gives me the message of "do not move the stick quickly"...or whatever that message is when you stick jerk....and that is when I just TAP the stick and move it less than an 8th of an inch.

For me it is not that I lose calibration in flight......it just will not calibrate the axis' at all while in the sim...and it sux.

Also... I tried this..a long shot.....I did an auto take off....hit the auto pilot...and then minimized the game. I then went to the calibration app on my computer and tested calibration and it was perfect.....and then I maximized the sim...was still in flight....touched the stick lightly forward and went into a death spin.

I agree...it is the sim...and it seems to be an issue of compatibility with my computer....maybe something running in the background.....but I pretty much end all unnecessary processes before I sign into the sim.,

Hi Lutrel, what kind of joystick is it?

This really does sound like joystick spike to me. This may not necessarily show up in calibration. IE: the stick will calibrate fine, but will have small spikes in use.

Does Raptor have another joystick to swap out with for trouble shooting?
If not, have him try setting up basic flight with his mouse and try that. If the mouse works fine it is a joystick problem.

cheers,

Unplug and replug all the connections, if no help, remove the 4 screws and remove the bottom.  Make sure the screws holding the sensors are tight and remove and replug the connections on the board.  I had to do this to mine after purchase and now it's works perfectly.
