« on: October 28, 2009, 10:46:15 AM »
Could we please get the H2H back? Im almost done with my map and its going to be boring and lonely testing it alone for errors.

I believe it's been stated that some form of H2H is in the works or at least being discussed at HTC.  It just won't be for public/non-subscriber use.

It will be on the line of user configurable arena's.
They will be hosted on HTC servers, using HTC's password server.
You will have to have an active account with HTC.

I'm sure any hacking or other foul play will show up on the HTC logs and will be dealt with promptly.

H2H is dead and will not return.

What Ghosth means by that is H2H is dead to non-paying people.  a.k.a. - its not free anymore...just another "arena" type deal

The problem is "lets test my map" turns into "let test my hack" which turns into yet another thing HTC has to deal with on a regular basis. The people that played H2H, not all but some, abused the toys they were given and in the end HTC had to take them away never to return them in free form.

What Beefcake said in spades. If your not paying for it you don't care if you break it.
You don't care if what you do costs HTC customers, or work to undo what you did.

Its in the pipeline, it will come back, no we don't have all the details yet.
As they are probably still being worked out.

Yes you will be able to configure the arena.
However like skins are now, those terrains will have to be approved by HTC before you can use them.

Thats not to say they'd have to be to Main type standard.
But don't be thinking you'll slip much past them that they don't want slipped.

So will I be able to use this to play against my kids and teach them or do I have to get seperate accounts?  Thats why I want H2H to teach the kiddos offline.

H2H Or Head To Head

was a feature that HTC developed for both subscribing and non-subscribing members.

It was basically a server where anyone could host a room and that room could hold up to 8 players. Custom maps were used alot in order to have a better appeal to the 8 player crowd than to have a war with hundreds of miles of map with a 4 vs 4 side.

Its was a free feature that HTC gave to the community, but with repeated hacks, players abusing the system of the 8 player max threshold (If you look through the forums you could maybe find screenshots of 16-20 people being able to join a room), and constant problems with the players HTC shut the thing down last year, and it is never coming back.

HTC warned the H2H players that if it did not stop they would take it away, and they didn't listen and now its gone.

The End

I see.. Thank you for the explaination.  :)

I've heard about the 8 player, and I have also heard alot how the 'older' players miss it. But I've never asked any more about it, always been kinda curious about it tho.. It was before my time.

I miss it alot as well, the DA is just complete rubbish and the coolest fact about the H2H was the host could kick players out of the room for miss behaving and whatnot.

It was awesome to host a room also, you have complete control of the room, change the color of the sky, sun, water, you could limit the plane set, change wind strength, make your own MOTD.

You were the moderator of your own room.

You could also set the winds so you could go zooming to 100K+ upon clicking a runway spawn, I remember I made a guy think he actually made it to space one day when I changed it to night time.
