rail yards more trains
« on: November 02, 2009, 08:15:05 PM »
<S> hey hitec how about adding some rail yards to this game and more trains to shoot at.in your TV commercial you show a fighter plane shooting at a train.the only train i ever get to shoot at is the one near the ammo factory if I'm doing a bombing run.i think some railyards would be a good addition to the game. and more train tracks with trains going to the the city's once in a while you no a train station.heck we have two churches in the towns why not a train station.every hour a train will comes.and of course it will be perked and the trains will have a ack car maybe two ack cars.i think this would be fun.

what do you thick aces high family ?
1. railyards with a train depot's.with ack guns around the railyards.
2.a train station at all the towns, with a train showing up every hour or so.
3. that way there's train rails through out the game and having to shoot at some trains more often.
4. with two ack cars to make it more challenging.

I would like to see the ability to destroy and rebuild the railroad infrastructure personally.  We have lots of railroad bridges in the game already, why not make them destructible/repairable?

It would certainly be interesting to see the railroad play a more prominent role in this game.

Marshalling yards were major targets for the 15th AF in Northern Italy.

I'd love to see some added as an additional strat target.

Tie it in to how often trains run supplies and you have a winner.

All for it.

I guess HT's issue is, how to implement a viable strat / supply system without it resulting in a storm of whines of the "I pay my $15 but I can't fly my plane!" or "Waaaaaaa there's never any drop tanks unless you start three sectors back."

I dunno, make being "out of supply" a condition for capturing fields, as opposed to simply knocking over the buildings in town?
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Would be neat to see a recreation of those Jugs strafing the railroads!

What hammer said!

Slow, delay, or stop trains running from rail lines, bridges, yards being destroyed and your getting someplace.

AH1 had Railway Stations and Depots integrated into its strat for a period of time.

Depots supplied strat to fields via roads. They were capturable. It was basically a Town with a control tower. Capture a depot and the enemy fields it previously supplied were starved of strat.

Stations were integrated more into the City & facilities side of strat. They were not capturable but by attrition you could effect the speed with which cities provided resources to facilities (radar, fuel, ammo etc).

They were removed over time. I quite liked the Depot concept, but it was one that had to be installed into a map carefully. Very often there were too many fields served by a single depot, such that once it was captured the surrounding fields fell too quickly. In some ways I would prefer if every town we now had was replaced with a depot and every field given its own map room.

Stations were sort of very remote...... you knew you were doing some harm to the enemy hitting them but the consequences were less than clear. Without this "game feedback" they became ignored.

Trains offer a fabulous opportunity to expand strategic game play.

They link production facilities which in turn link distribution facilities which in turn are linked with supply destinations.

Manned trains and manned puffy ack on trains along with missions to protect trains and cover them to a destination would be very fun.

Trains with manned 5" guns could act as mobile artillery...

Trains could also carry troops for strategic facility capture, base capture...as well as supplies for airfields or facilities...

Trains could offer another method of side balancing by enabling 'enhanced' capability to a side that is out numbered both in terms of pilots and fields

Trains could carry battalions of vehicles into an enemy territory for train/gv assault to recapture territory or shut down enemy facilities

Trains could stop at destroyable bridges along a route and drop off vehicles and man ack to protect the bridge...

Vehicle spawns could be set interdict trains at choke points and bridges...

Trains could carry aircraft and unload them at rough cut airstrips that would otherwise not be able to launch aircraft

Its endless the neat stuff you could do with trains
