Unfortunately the forum as far as I'm aware doesn't understand the concept of transparency, but I did the next best thing and just made the background the same color.

Edit: Seems the color changed a bit because every unloader I know converts .bmp to .jpg, sorry.

airflyer, you using IE6.0?  7 and 8 along with Firefox +3.0 support transparency with PNG and GIF files.  I don't think jpg files do transparency at all.

FF 3.5, if it does support transparency like that then I suppose it's done in a way that I don't understand.

while were on the topic of avatars, how do you get the picture to change in images such as in my avatar, or signature?

The answer to both these gentlemens' question is that it must be a .gif (for transparency and/or animated).

Make sure you save it as a PNG file for transparancy.

Adobe ImageReady or equivalent software.  Its basically a few .gif images in series, with transitions if you prefer.

Like the "old school" cartoon animators, it can be like a filmstrip where the subject has a slightly different pose in each frame.  Most of the software will fade in/out between different images for a smooth transition.

I use GIMP, although it has a very haphazard method of converting an image into an animation (each layer becomes one frame).

And yes, JPEGs do not allow transparency information or layer data.

What he said.

The end result must be an animated .gif (within the parameters of pixel/file size of the forum)
