F4U
« on: September 26, 2001, 03:20:00 AM »
Lately I've flown this plane (D and C) several times in jabo missions and found something amazing comparing it to 190A/F series:

Any F4U (75% fuel) will outturn, outdive, outclimb, outzoom a similar fuel loaded 190A/F. Even more, F4U will loop in a dime over'n over, will do incredible flat turns and inversions and will outscissors any fast rolling 190 with the help of its rudder.

At this point you'll say, as it should be, where is the problem?

Well, it can do all the above mentioned fully loaded with bombs and rockets. Just the opposite of what you get with a medium/fully loaded P47D-30 or P38L.

As a side note, I broke all and every F4U after touching the runaway and braking a bit.

The problem is you will be blamed on driving blue birds and will have to wear pink tutus over your usual leather garment until 1.09 is released!!

Hello

LOL...

But for landing the beast....

Full Flaps, and stall it 5 feet above runway... works fine for me

LOL Pepe, I never forget to wear pink tutus when flying F4U, they are marked as mandatory-flying-accesory in the F4U flight manual to get maximum performance  :D

Thats rather interesting, because I normally have no problems at all killing an F4U in a 190 or 109, no matter what the model is.  I've been killed by several this tour, but generally it was because I was stupid and didn't notice one setting me up while I set up someone else.  The 109s are better for killing the F4Us, followed by the 190A5, the D9, and lastly the A8 (my opinion).

I don't really care for the F4U's, they handle similar to a 190 in my opinion, the C-Hog has much better firepower though.  I think the F4U can outzoom any 190 but the D9, as far as turning performance goes I'm not so sure they are that much better though.

Mandoble,
The hog is pretty sweet  ;) I find most 190s will out roll me but not by a bunch and by adding rudder I can ALMOST keep up.

Tip when landing, slow to 50mph once on the ground before hitting the brakes, otherwise she will do a really nasty ground loop and break apart.

Urchin, pick up a F4U and fly it several times in jabo (hvy loaded) and fighter roles.
Surelly you'll be surprised.
