Update the KI-61

I searched and, not suprisingly, found nothing, so update KI-61 please.   :banana:       :airplane:

Interesting thing about many of the Japanese planes is that 1 physical model can give you 3-4 different aircraft by using armament options.

You could, in theory, get FOUR versions of the A6M5 just by offering different gun packages. The Ki-61 may be able to as well.

There are a few discrepancies between models. One of the biggest I believe are the control consoles although it wouldn't be a very big deal just worth mentioning.

A6M1 and A6M2


A6M3 32 and 22


A6M5 and A6M5a console


A6M5b and A6M5c


A6M6c(I think...)


Of course there are other differences as well but I figured I would point this out. That aside I would still love to see the A6M and Ki-61 get updated.

Do you know if that A6M6 ever got used? I heard it was a pretty uber plane,but not sure if it ever got out on the battlefield.

Good question.  The A6M6 was similiar to the A6M5 Model 52c but with self-sealing fuel tanks and the A6M6c Type 0 Model 53c had Sakae 31a engine featuring water-methanol engine boost.  I've heard the The A6M6 Model 53c prototype was first flown sometime in 1944 but the project was eventually cancelled due to massive engine failures.  Not sure if the A6M6 ever got out of the prototype phase and into full production.

From what I've dug up there were several hundred A6M6c's that did see combat, certainly more than the number of P-47Ms and Ta-152s, and MAYBE the F4U-1Cs combined.

As for the cockpit dashes:

Keep in mind there's inaccuracies in several cockpits. IE: The airspeed indicator in the F4U-1/A/D/C was swapped with another instrument after players complained about not being able to see it in default head position (the A.S.I. was in its HISTORICAL position originally, they made the concession for the players who couldn't figure out you can look DOWN). Also, The F4U-1A didn't have the comb on the right side of the dash. It had the panel with the six arming switches for the Brownings and the gunsight brightness adjustment knob on the left, but not the one on the right. The right comb was for the bomb and rocket arming switches, and wasn't added until the 1D.

So I think HTC could get away with having one or two gauges out of place for the A6M5s....

thanks.  the book I have on the Zero is in Japanese with some awful Engrish translations that make some of the reading very confusing.

I actually read somewhere that Zero pilots could switch some gauges by personal preference, and historical pictures seem to back this from what I've seen. Or perhaps depending on the manufacturer they were just different I'm not quite sure.

As far as production, I'm not really sure myself. Although I've seen rough estimates on total Zeroes produced during certain times, it isn't specific on the model. Here's what I've got anyways....
