TrackIr and limited head movement
« on: November 08, 2009, 01:03:53 PM »
I'm getting to where I am going to buy one.  However my neck is fused by damage from arthritis and I have limited mobility because of that.  So my big question is will it be worth my while to get one?

Thanks and good health to you and yours.

Limited head movement will probably work in your favour. Keeping your head still when using track ir can be challenging for some, and is key to getting most out of it

If you have trouble you can change to a swivel chair and then use your hips to help with relative movement. It might be a little tougher if you use a twisty stick and TrackIR from a swivel chair but I think you can handle it.

How limited is limited?
Keep in mind you can set the TIR to be very sensitive.

Head movement is what makes trackir work.
Also, trackir wont improve SA. A hat switch is just as good with SA.
ThE only othething i will say is.. If you want it, can afford it, try it out.

You also dont need trackir in AH. You can use the mouse look feature (Shift-m).

If you can look at the left border and the right border of your monitor you should have no problem.

It's well worth it imo. Ive been flying with it for over a year... I still cant shoot anyone down :) but it really adds a lot to the game. The first two weeks you have it will be pretty awkward but you get used to it pretty quick

my SA has gone down using trackir, but it's mainly cause I have used the hat switch for so mahny years and I probably don't have it setup right yet.

Tips for TrackIR:-

Set it up as aggressively as you can stand it (the less movement in real life, for more movement in Virtual Life).
Uncheck relative to plane (so when you are looking back, you lean left to look left, rather than lean right to look left).

Center it carefully, lean forward and it will improve your back views (really important in some planes (f4u, f6f etc).

Have fun, there are loads of writeup's on these boards for it.
