As has been pointed out, 2012 is absolutely bogus.

Heck, even Revelation has been grossly misinterpreted (it referred to the fall of Rome).

And "Apocalypse" never meant the end of the world, but actually translates more closely to "change."

I think you just gave your "friend" 3 years, 2 months, and 3 days to plan your murder.... ahem, disappearance. Afterwards he probably just plans to come to your house and take all of your stuff before anyone realizes you're gone.

When you have a society that is fascinated by the stars, has a basic knowledge of mathematics, has written records to pass to the next generation, and a zest for knowledge that is unclouded by religion, you can discover many things about the universe even without a telescope.

But that sure a hell doesn't mean the world is gonna end.  :aok
Which society are you referring to? The Mayans were highly religious, guided by "elemental gods", "spirits" and the "heavens". Not many human civilizations have gone without some sort of religious belief system.

The 2012 end date has been theorized to be "a new beginning" in what is claimed to be regular series of cycles. Going to be interesting to see how closely that calendar is tied to several "apocalyptic prophecies" and other "cyclic calendars".

Might want to point out to him that this is nuts stuff based on one Mayan calender that ends in 2012.  They made other calenders that ended far, far, far further in the future.  They also didn't think the end of the calender meant anything other than they'd have to make a new one.  This whole thing is a weird mix of Mayan calenders being mixed with Christian belief in the end of the world, something that most ancient religions and peoples didn't believe.

Also, ask him why he thinks some ancient Mayan calender makers would have information about this?  They just studied stars closely so as to make accurate calenders, which are very useful to civilizations for timing things like crop planting and such.

Karnak,

I disagree that end-of-world myths are peculiar to the Judeo-Christian/Muslim faith. Virtually EVERY culture has some sort of mythology centering around how the world is going to end. It's part of the primeval mythology that all human cultures share.

Some friend you are.   And the rest of you, the "Get it in writing crowd".....

Is this what America is coming to?  Are we really that greedy?  Where even a stupid or under-educated "friend" is a tool to seemingly take advantage of.....

In any case,
The "2012" myth is a perpetration of the christian need (and I say "desire") for the "End of Days" at last once every generation (Gotta keep the sheep in the flock). The Mayans made other longer calendars, and actually figured this one would just "reset" after 2012.  It was written down this way.  It is no more likely than Nostradamus, whose predictions are never even close to truth unless his writings are generously "interpreted".

Egypt did not, they were quite fixated on things always being as they had been and would be.  Greece did not, so far as I can recall.  The Norse had myths about the end of the gods, but that wasn't about the end of the world as it was supposed to usher in a utopia.  Never heard of Mayan end of the world myths either.

So legal or not, is anyone else bothered that this is his "friend."

Takes "who needs enemies" to a new level.

All that kept bothering me was "Would he actually take those things from his friend?"

Im typing up a agreement now, heres what it would look like:

The agreement that follows was reviewed by both parties, (my name) and (Jeff), and that by signing this document both parties agree to the terms and conditions that this document contains.

On December 22, 2012 at 12:01AM, if the party of (me) is living and able, then the party of (jeff) will give the party of (me) full credit to the savings and all monetary instruments that the party of (Jeff) has ownership to as of the signing of this document, and that are listed below:

**
((                                    (I did this section like this, because he might blow off all his money before then)

***

On December 22, 2012 at 12:01AM, if the party of (me) is living and able, then the party of (jeff) will give the party of (me) full ownership to vehicle that the party of (jeff) has in ownership under his name.

On December 22, 2012 at 12:01AM, if the party of (me) is living and able, then the party of (jeff) will give the party of (me) full ownership to the household/property that the party of (jeff) has ownership and title to that of said houshold/property.

If on December 22, 2012 the party of (me) is not living and able, then this document is thereby null and void.

This document and all conditions listed above has been reviewed by both parties (My signature) and (Jeffs signature) and by signing this document with the set conditions above both parties agree to these set conditions.

The History Channel did a good job at trying to make everybody think this was fact and a sure thing.  They even got nut job 'scientists' to come on and tell how the world was going to end on the winter solstice of that year.
