Exchange of Edited screenshots anyone?
« on: November 09, 2009, 01:37:43 PM »
Hey all,

I figured, we've got a centralized post for "everyday" screenshots, but since a lot of us like editing screenshots, why don't we have 1 central place for those too?

Aaaaaand to start the ball rolling :

Banshee, I'll laugh at you for plenty of other things. No need to laugh at you for that attempt.  :neener:

Joking aside, it's a good start. You asked for opinions/suggestions, sooooo here I go =)
What are you using to edit the screenshot? Often what I'll do is use a very light brush, in black color (let's say 5-10% transparency) and paint around the outside of the picture. That gives it the "faded/worn" edges feel, and also causes the middle of the picture with the color and such to stand out more. =) I like the "paleness" of the terrain in your edited one. Any chance you could keep that but also keep the dark blue sea of the original? Also, when taking the picture itself, I highly recommend getting as close as you can to your planes so that both are in view. Generally I go into AH Film Editor and watch a film, pause it, hit Z to zoom in, and then change the "distance zoom" to get closer. Then I hit "view full screen", wait a few seconds until everything loads up and hit "Print screen". Then I paste that into whatever program I'm using at the time (paint, photoshop, etc).

Just suggestions. =)

Plaz, I like the deep color sky for that 3rd one of yours.

These are all amazing  :aok

weazely (or anyone else for that matter :P), do you have any objection to me using one of these as a desktop background?
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

Weazley - I was wondering where that K4 pic I downloaded was from. I've already used it as a desktop background and as part of a JG11 ahlogo.jpg

Many props for it. :salute :rock

Also, all these nice screenshots with real scenery edited into the background makes me think - WOW. Our AH planes come VERY close to looking real. The only thing that spoils "OMFG this looks like it's from a real dogfight" in the normal/ingame screenshots is the background terrain in AH.

I kind of feel bad for posting my Typhoon screen shots agian.

A couple more angles, look at that view!

It would be a great idea to include the tools/techniques you used to create your works of art. I'm sure people new to Photoshop would appreciate it.

I used Paint Shop Pro X2, for the top picture I did as follows:

Raised the RGB values by 15.
Applied "Vivid Filter".
10% "Cross Process".
Used the magic wand to highlight the background and applied 9% blur. I was going to do the same for the other two but the process takes forever!
All in all I didn't want to go to crazy, I just wanted to show off the plane/ground/water textures but make the colours a little more vibrant.

What are you using to edit the screenshot?

GIMP

I have no earthly idea.  I just messed with the "curves" until I found something I like in the brightness of the aircraft.  Also Used a little blur.

I am probably doing everything the hard way.  Especially the blur.
