Interesting B-17 skin opportunity
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:36:54 PM »
Some b17s were captured and flown by Kampfgeschwader 200, would be a cool skin, not sure if it's allowed or not but it's interesting either way.  :salute

The Finns bought or were given the Hurricanes during the Winter War, but they didn't get there in time to fight.  The Winter War happened before Finland found itself at war with the UK.

The Japanese C-47 was not captured.  Before the war Nakakjima purchased a license to build DC-3s and those were used as a transport aircraft the the Japanese navy with the code "L2D", the "D" in that case being the IJN's letter code for the manufactuer "Douglas".

Any others?

I meant aircraft in AH that people might see a skin for and think it is captured.

Iraqi 110s
IIRC those were sent to Iraq by Germany to aid an Iraqi rebellion which could have went badly for Britain had it succeeded (oil).

There's a lot of different aircraft that wound up Finnish.

The Fins did not belong to any particular side during WW2, although we typically clump them with Axis. The Fins fought to preserve their own freedom in the midst of two clashing European titans - Germany and Russia. As such, they had to play both sides, which meant they got their war materiel from any and every place they could.

PS, what's the story behind the French Ju88s?

Also the Romanian Hurricane. Not captured, they bought a bunch before the war, and also had others given to them by the Germans (ones captured in Yugoslavia). Almost all were used by Escadrila 53, based at Mamaia (just north of Constanta on the Black Sea coast) to defend against the Russian raids on the port facilities. Never used them frontline to avoid confusion with the Russian-flown Hurris. Their engines were eventually removed and used to power torpedo boats to the end of the war.

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

If captured skins are not allowed, then why do we have a C-47 in Japanese skin?  Or were they licensed before the war. Just wondering.
