Mosquito Requested
« on: March 19, 2001, 07:17:00 AM »
The Mossie, being one of the most successful Allied aircraft of the war, is requested.  It's high speed and lethal characteristics would be a welcome weapon in open play and events.  Please include the option to take along a torpedo since this has been overlooked in another WWII sim, much to proponants of the aircrafts. suprise

I've been asking for the Mosquito since I've been here, Hening. Word is that it will eventually get here. I can't wait until it does.

btw, Welcome to AH, neighbor. I live almost next door in Hudson.

About time - see, I am not the only one who wants the Mossie. Several versions, please.

Yes Mossie please!

Btw, Blockbuster Video finally got my copy of the "633 Squadron" movie. If ya haven't seen it, it has some very good color footage of Mosquitos in action. (not the battle scenes though, those are pretty cheezy)

Sorry didn't mean to highjack thread.

There was about fifteen solid minutes of Mossie action on the Wings channel.  These scenes were of Norwegian action in the fjords.  The tactics discussed were that the first Mossies in would gun the decks to clear ack ack teams, while the second wave used rockets and heavy cannon mounted in the nose to punch holes in the ships.  Really exciting stuff with NOE flying and high speeds to outrun the 190s.   Night fighter gear for Lancaster escorts, 4X500lb bomb capacity (I think the last model handled a single 4000lb bomb) and a heavy nose gun along with a torpedo option for naval operations would make this a sweet ride.

Hening,
The first bomber version was the B.MkIV and had a 2,000lb bombload (I think).
The FB.MkVI had 4 Hispano MkII 20mm cannon, 4 .303 Brownings, an internal bombload of 5oolbs and 8 rockets as external stores.
The B.MkIX introduced the capacity to carry a single 4,000lb bomb but it was the B.MkXVI(version?) that was the most common of the 4,000lb bombload Mosquitoes.
The MkXVIII carried 1 57mm cannon and 4 .303 Brownings.
There were also various nightfighter versions.

I would like to see these Mosquitoes in AH:

Mosquito FB.MkVI
Mosquito B.MkXVI
Mosquito MkXVIII
Mosquito NF.MkXXX

Yes, bring the Mossie please...I need to test my 30mm HE on some wooden targets

Seriously, I think the Mossie is needed, as is the ME410 they would both be great additions to the game.

B.IV series II had 2,000lb(4x500lb) internal bombload, plus it could carry 2x50gal drop tanks on the wings. Some were later converted to carry a single 4,000lb cookie. 235 of series II built.

FB.VI(series II) could carry 2x500lb bombs internally, and on the wings either: 2x500lb bombs, 8 rockets or 2x100gal drop tanks. 2,248 of series I and II built.

B.XVI had a pressurised cabin, high-altitude 70 series Merlins(~420mph!) and a maximum bombload of a single 4,000lb cookie in it's bulged bomb-bay. It could also carry 50gal drop tanks under the wings. 1200 built. Should probably be a cheap perk.

FB.XVIII "Tse Tse Fly" - a FB.VI with the 4x20mm replaced by a single 57mm Molins gun with 25 rounds. Only 25 built.

I don't see the point to nightfighter versions unless HTC adds realistic airborne radar, searchlights etc...

The problem is, having the FB.VI virtually negates any purpose to adding the Beaufighter - because the Mossie simply does everything better except for engine durability and being able to carry a torpedo. Although a Beaufighter Mk.21 with 4x20mm+4x.50in would be nice.

Beaufighter?  Now you're talking!  For the historical perspective it would be well suited for upcoming scenario events.  A mission of Spit, Mossies and Beaufighters would bring tears to my eyes.

Nightfighting with search lights searching the skys? Wowzers!!  Have to start eating at the computer I guess ;-)

The Mossie is also well suited in a recon role.  My experience has been using the IV model (no guns) for medium level bombing missions and the VI model for vicious jabo attacks.  AH and its system of adding and changing armourments would really put this plane in the perspective that it deserves.

Currently, I've been working out a night mission scenario using the Mossie to escort Lancs.
