Leonid, you were right ...

Many, many days ago I was whining about how pig was the C.205. You answered me on this board saying: "Gatt, believe me, the C.205 is not a pig up to 20K, not at all". As a gun platform is still one of the less stable of the whole plane-set but, if you have time enuff, you will love that fighter.

I hardly meet C.205s in the arena but, everytime I do, I always think: "what the hell do I do now?" I still cant believe so few people use it in the arena but hell ... I'm happy to account for about 20% of all the C.205 victories so far

"And one of the finest aircraft I ever flew was the Macchi C.205. Oh, beautiful. And here you had the perfect combination of italian styling and german engineering .... it really was a delight to fly ... and we did tests on it and were most impressed." - Captain Eric Brown

Gatt,

The C205 Veltro is a marvelous plane.  She has good climb and speed as well as good armament (2-20mms, 2 MG's).  She is a pure joy to fly.  In fact she is basically all i fly for the Bish.  When you see a Bish 205 in the sky chances are its me  .  Yes i currently have 90% of all my kills in C205 and wouldnt change that for the world.
When i meet another 205 in the air i usually access situation after 1st pass.  If he Split-s hes either rookie or gonna run.  If he climbs to immelman i know im in for the long haul.  Ive never yet been dropped by another C205 that i know of (though it WILL happen anyday im sure, thats the law of averages).  But C205 drivers always get my upmost respect because i give them all the benefit of the doubt about flying it.
Some of my favorite kills are against Spit IX and La7 as well as FW190D9.  They all think the 205 stinks and put their guard down.  The 20mm's have good hit power and i never shoot before 250 unless im helping out a fellow countryman (trying to shake a bogie from the saddle, so to speak).  Historically (and im sure here) they had good pilot armor for both Back/Head and Kidney.  She had a wonderfully sparsed cockpit and the great DB605 engine (Licensed built in Italy).  Above all this her throttle was PULLED to full not pushed like allied fighters.  Its nice to be different.  If you like the C202 and 205 the Squadron in Action book .... C202 Macchi in action.   features both the 202 and 205.
I only wish there was a dedicated C205 /202 squad who didnt end up flying BF109's (yuck  ).

  Take Care,

  Knock

BTW the handle is KNOCK not grumble if you see me online.  Let me know if ya wanna wing it sometime  .

Ouch.  Watch what you say to the boss, grumble.

The 205 is fun, but in the MA its lack of versatility limits what you can do with it.  If I want to Jabo or vulch, I take something else.  If I want to screw around and furball low, I'll grab something different.  If I want to kill a lot of planes and piss people off, I'm in an ostwind.
The best fun is when we get a group of 4 or even 8 205s together and go kick some ass. It does happen.

Too much cockpit framing for me.  SA is a squeak looking out that stuff.

Nice bird anyway.

I always thought the C205 was a very good bird. I didn't get to fly it as much as I wanted this tour.... but atleast my fateful flight I was flying the excellent 205 and learned some heathens some respect for the plane.
I can't fly H2H without creating another account, otherwise I'd hook up with you Gatt and we could fly against each other and learn tricks from one another.

Yeah, GATT, I have a lot of respect for those Italian designers.  They made an excellent fighter, and when I meet a C.205 in the arena I always go at it with care - its acceleration is awesome.

Try a RE2005 next time if you can, a bit faster, but more manuverable and 3xMG151/20 and 2x12.7....."fights on"
