What's the point?
No one is ever going to see the impeller let alone whether it stops or doesn't.

He wasn't asking about visuals. He was wondering if we could set the delay on our bombs to go off after a certain time instead of on impact. That would allow skip bombing like in Il-2.

wouldn't it be a blast(pun intended) to have a panzer killed as he drives over a delayed fuse bomb?

could you imagine the whines?

I reread his post again to be sure and it certainly sounded like he was looking for visuals.
No where did I see him allude to or ask for setting a delay let alone skip bombing but
kudos for being able to translate what he did write into that!

I gathered it from that being the purpose of the impeller...I dunno, I'm hopeful he was asking for something useful.

Skip bombing (possible with delayed fusing) would bring out a potential in the P-51D that has not been realized in the game so far.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I presume someone has already asked for delayed-action bomb fuses and/or parachute-retarded 'parafrag' bombs in 'Wish List'? If not, I might open a new thread there.

Actually, it was even brought up at the 2003 convention. The reply was along the lines of not being worth the effort.

Here's a good source if you'd like to read up on British bombs and Fuzes.

Anyone know how the delay washer works?  Looks like it would just stop the arming plunger from moving down at all.  What breaks the delay washer after a given amount of time?

It gets pierced on impact, look towards the end of the operation paragraph.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that it's not impact that pierces the delay washer.  The inertia ring is slammed forward by impact (opposite direction of movement of the arming plunger), and then the delay washer holds back the arming plunger for the delay period after impact before letting the arming plunger release, it seems.

Or better yet, set it to explode right above the tank.

Your right Brooke the inertia ring moves forward (towards the top of the nose) on impact, that allows the ball to fall out of place. Then the spring releases and after approximately 20 seconds (i imagine) the delay washer breaks under the spring tension and then the plunger strikes the cap.

hmm... delayed fuse bombs, that would be the PERFECT strategy to bomb a field and get tons of perkies. carpet the field with eggs, everyone starts thinkin "lol it was just a noob lets all go pwn him in 262s" and ups,THEN they go off and you land your 8 kills  :D

Would be less effective; more armor on top than bottom, more air to travel through before the force reaches the tank. Although, bombs ricochet off tanks in this game, so... :D

"hmm... delayed fuse bombs, that would be the PERFECT strategy to bomb a field and get tons of perkies"

The USAAF light bomber crews that attacked Japanese airfields in the Philippines and New Guinea from tree-top level thought so - the parafrags blew the wings off parked aircraft a treat. And delay-fused bombs would restore some of the surprise element that's rather gone out of airfield attacks lately.
