Intel for Perks
« on: November 16, 2009, 06:28:07 AM »
Hello,

We all know in war there are spies.  Heck there are folks here that have shade accounts.  OK that is a given.

How many times have you flown to a base with a dar bar only to find there is no plane there or the dar bar vanishes before you get there?  Especially when you are in an arena with few players.  In effect you are paying $/month to not find combat in these instances.

I propose the option to use your perks to buy intel.  Here are some suggestions:
  • To buy intel on whether a fighter(s) exists over a specified enemy base or not.
  • To buy intel on whether a gv(s) exists at a specified enemy base or not.
  • To buy intel on whether a town's buildings are still up or not.
  • To buy intel on whether FH\BH\VH are still up or not at a specified enemy base.
  • To buy intel on where a particular pilot is.

Maybe something like 10 perk points or so for each of the above.  You can use your bomber points too for this if desired.  Also, I am not suggesting anything more than this level.  Nothing that would be a major change of the balance of power for an entire country.  Just to make game play more fun.

Guys what do you think?

Too Gamey for me.

How about dropping special ops. 'observation troops' into a sector using a C-47, and they'd provide intel on that sector for, say, 20 mins. To see the intel right click on the strat. map. and you'd see a list of the planes in the air in that sector. If there's a port present, you'd also see if the flat-top's at home. Could also be used to cover the approaches to bases by indicating how many GVs are in the sector - but they wouldn't necessarily provide the locations of them.

These spec. ops. troops would cost the perks. and you'd have to sneak them in too.

That should be relatively easy to implement as there's no new modelling and very little bandwidth cost.

It doesn't solve your problem, but then again, maybe the enemy were luring you away from the action on purpose.

Again, my intent was to make it a little more fun.  Cut down in the long hauls to get to a base and there is nothing to engage in.

...yet you paid $$$ for the scenic ride.  You could always by M$ flight sim if you do not want to engage in air combat.

I really like the mysteries that are built into the game.  Part of the fun is not knowing what you are gonna find, what you are going to run into, etc.  I say no.

    • To buy intel on whether FH\BH\VH are still up or not at a specified enemy base.
    • To buy intel on where a particular pilot is.

You can check the status of hangars on the clipboard by right-clicking on the field and checking status.  To find a particular pilot, right-click on his name in the roster, select "goto" and it will move you to the friendly base closest to him.[/list]

I need instant gratification and a flight over 5 min without a fight is HTCs fault and its wasting my money.

I say no to the gamey stuff but yes to enhancing the game in this area.

Right clicking on field to get its status is too gamey. There should be a recce flight or troops nearby before the information is available. We should have to work to get intel - otherwise you might as well play Il-2 or an arcade game. This is where AH beats shoot-em-ups hands down.

Yet I think we've got it pretty easy with maps that update every 10 seconds showing you exactly where a con is, if not, showing you that the con is in a 25 mile radius.

why do you need intel? when you have the darbar, and if your radar tower is up, you have the contacts shown then also.

So long as we can shoot the traitor who gave up the info :aok After a while you will rack up enough points that farming for perks won't even cross your mind. Having about or over 30k of them I would not even bother with this suggestion. Come squeaker season this would be a nightmare if implemented.
