Yea it did look like that gentleman was a pretty tall guy, so it makes sense that he didn't really fit.  That being said, I wouldn't want to get in there at 6'1" 190.   :uhoh  Good thing I can fit in my G2/G6 in game :)

I wonder the Luftwaffe ever switched pilots around according to their physical build?  I'd imagine they would have to, but I can't recall ever seeing a document indicating size requirements...anyone help me out here?

Not a LW expert by any means but it wouldn't surprise me if the LW did have size requirements for fighter pilots, at least prior to, or early in the war.  I would imagine they got less picky as situations developed.  I believe the U.S. had pre-war restrictions that were loosened up somewhat in the haste to build up the armed forces after '41. For instance the P-39 went as far as to have a non-adjustable/fixed seat and the cockpit was designed for pilots not over 5' 8" in height and 160 pounds.  Later the weight allocation was raised to 200lbs which was standard at the time.

I found a video where his last words were clipped off.  He says of the 109 "I think its terrible." referring to the cockpit.  Some of the other comments by others on the show regarding the other aspects of the two aircraft were a lot more favorable for the Bf109.

As a test, I watched the 109 clip with the sound off, and just looked at it and at the things he pointed out, so I wouldn't be swayed by his opinion.  I even avoided looking at his facial expressions.

My overall impression fits with the "it's terrible" description.

To be fair though, there is a 109 fuselage/cockpit section at the museum near here, and I'd already come to that general conclusion years ago...  If anything, my impression was made worse by seeing that fellow squeeze into it.

Terrible or not in our opinion this plane was piloted by the highest scoring pilots of WW2 Hartmann Marseille etc they where also pilots who put a lot of importance on seeing the enemy before he seen you so the 109 couldn't have been that much of a nightmare regards visibility

What a terribly cramped and uncomfortable way to die for the Fatherland.

It's a part of a Luftwaffe welfare program for pilots.

Obesity is not good for health - so, to maintain their pilots in top condition, they give them a plane with small cockpits.

I think it runs along the same line as giving them those leather thongs - just try imagine and compare Moelders and Goering in

one of those thongs... one's mmmmmmmmmm~  the other's yuck!

.. wait, did that sound gay?
